Re: worried 142 apnea per hour

I had my sleep study done in late November and my AHI was 126, a bit lower than yours but none the less very high. My results last night were AI = .1, HI = 5.8 for an AHI of 5.9...those are the best numbers for me to date. I am finding that I am not as sleepy as I used to be during the day. But like...

Re: EPR making results worse?

[/quote] After my sleep doctor raised my pressure from 15 to 17 and reading some posts here I lowered my EPR from 3 to 2 and last night had the best results so far. AHI = 3.8, HI = 3.4 and AI = .4. Now we will see if that trend continues. Pretty good change I believe considering I had an AHI of 126 ...

Re: How many hours should CPAP be worn per night?

I've been wondering where the 4 hours comes from (other than being an insurance hurdle). Is it some deluded thought that 4 hours good sleep a night will sustain people? On the other hand, I am typically (though not always) hit hard around 3-5 am presumably in REM. So, in theory a crazy system of sl...

Re: How many hours should CPAP be worn per night?

The first night in the sleep study I quit breathing 1018 times in 6hr43min. The second night with the CPAP. I slept at the sleep center like a baby. This was in June 1999. I have become totally addicted to it... on my 4th machine now, and using the Swift II (lady friend's recommendation) Best mask ...

Re: 2.9 AHI?

I started therapy in late December and last night had my best results so far. 7 3/4 hrs, pressure 15.4, .26 l/s, AHI = 5.4, AI = .1 & HI = 5.3. My better half said I was sleeping like a baby.

Re: Question for Full Face Mask users

Jeff, I tried the Quattro as well and it left the bridge of my nose red, sleep doctor said get a different mask even though I did like the seal. I am now trying a F&P Forma which they told me is new. So far it isn't bothering the bridge of my nose but I don't think it seals as well as the Quattro wi...

Re: data for a "normal" person

SleepingUgly, I see that the full face Quattro worked the bridge of your nose over as well, I had to stop using it even though I liked it in all other respects. I am now using a F&P Forma and it doesn't bother the bridge of my nose but the seal is different enough, I don't think its as soft, that I ...

Re: EPR making results worse?

I have a short update for anyone this might help. Since turning off EPR, this is my data: AHI: 2.7 AI: 0.0 HI 2.7 I was never able to achieve AI of 0 with EPR on at 1 (though the average was quite good at .2 as I mentioned in my original post). Looks like no EPR for me is a good thing. -SoccerMan A...

Re: EPR making results worse?

Here is a post by Rested Gal (resident expert) on setting pressure, using EPR on Resmed: http://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic.php?p=310021#p310021 Hope it's helpful. Rested Gal is making a very good point in that message that I hadn't thought of when it comes to EPR settings. Now that my sleep doctor ...

Re: EPR making results worse?

Years ago before EPR I had a CPAP that was very difficult to exhale against, I found that I was getting less sleep with the machine and stopped using it. When I got my present xpap machine I started out with an EPR setting of 2 with my max pressure set at 15, low pressure was set at 10. That seemed ...

Re: Sidesleepers - Strange, but Worked

I have found that a very firm pillow works best for me. That way I can put my head at the very edge and let the hose hang over the side. The CPAP pillows seem pretty spendy for what they are and then require a special cover to work properly.

Finding the 'right' mask

Well after a good month of Xpap use the full face ResMed Quatro is leaving a bright red spot on the bridge of my nose, most noticeable in the mornings. Even though it so far hadn't been bothersome my sleep doctor wanted me to try another mask so off for another consultation. What I ended up with was...

Re: when you get a cold

I use a daily steroidal nasal spray, which helps to prevent congestion. When I get a cold that causes congestion that makes it difficult to use my nasal mask, I use Afrin about an hour before bed time. Afrin should only be used occasionally, no more than three days at a time and not more than about...

Re: Ramp (Settle) or not? Need to Relax!

try watching the tv with the mask on or reading a book. The idea would be to acclimate to it while not trying to fall asleep. I would also continue to use the ramp (from 7 or 8 cm) until you feel you no longer need it. You may even want to drop your low pressure setting to 9 until you get used to i...

Re: Day 3 with CPAP and having a problem

I had noticed the occasional sleep-onset centrals even before starting CPAP myself. And there are none in my sleep report, which I mentioned earlier. So in my case, I think they're perfectly normal. First, due to better sleep, you might not be as desparately sleepy. Thus you might not fall asleep a...
