Best sleep study center

Post by PatOnCPAP » Thu Jun 04, 2020 12:28 am

Hi,

This may sound like a crazy query, but does anyone know of, or have heard of the best best sleep study center / person to see, anywhere in the world? Who would be the top person to go and see (of course when normal life resumes after COVID)?
I'm out here in South Africa with a sleep disorder that is just not being diagnosed or treated properly. I've had 4 different studies done and was told, moderate apnea, then no apnea only UARS and snoring. CPAP use with correct pressure settings hasn't improved my sleep by much and my health is going downhill.

I want to go and see someone more qualified in the field of sleep disorders. Any recommendations? As I say, anywhere in the world. The centers here is SA are just interested in taking your money and thats that. The last study I had done here the technician was removing the pads from my scalp by pouring neat acetone on my scalp.... And I had to Google what UARS was after the diagnosis. Dr in charge couldnt even be bothered to explain what it was or how to treat it. Prescribed me melatonin. I think that about sums up the care here.

Thanks
Pat

There are so many reasons for sleeping disorders and I think you need to go to a doctor.

Wow!

I looked back at a few of your posts and couldn't see where you have taken full advantage of help from forum members. This would include filling out your equipment profile, posting some OSCAR charts, and talking about your sleep hygiene. Please see the first two announcement threads on the index page.

Hiya CG, thanks for the reply.

I had been reading lots of other posts on the forum and tweaking my machine over the course of the past year and a half to get what I felt the best results I could get. If you saw my Oscar charts you'd probably say there is nothing going on there to worry about. Yet I am plagued with continued arousals throughout the night and my health is suffering terribly. I'm just wondering if I'm barking up the wrong tree with apneas, so to speak as the sleep studies I had gave me differing results.
But you are right, let me upload a bunch of reports and Oscar charts, along with medical history/medications tried, etc, and perhaps someone could take a look at the charts and see if something could be improved. I'll update my info as well.

Thanks and take care

Do it all in this one thread so that people helping you can easily get a comprehensive view of your history.

Right. Here goes. Not sure anything will come of this but maybe someone can see something I cant. This was last nights report, and me feeling terrible today, like every day basically.
Not sure what is causing so many arousals during the night. I turn and wakee every 20 mins or so (as heard in Snorelab) and I'm aware of it too.

Wont mention any meds/health history just yet. Want to see if the graphs might showing a breathing related problem or not first.

Thanks for taking a look.

Post a normal nights OSCAR graph in here. What are all your symptoms? If your AHI is low then it might not be a sleep apnea issue.

What is your AHI from the sleep study? Do you feel the same with and without a CPAP?

Is there a reason your min. setting's so high? I'd be afraid of aerophagia and/or centrals/clear airway problems if nothing else.

I see nothing on the reports or the zoomed in image to be able to blame unwanted symptoms on.
Boring report...look elsewhere for reasons for feeling like crap.

hi, I've got EPR on 2 now, but when I had min set at 12 with no EPR I would see 1 or 2 OA flags. Since upping to that minimum I dont see those anymore. Yeah I did have aero for a few weeks but thats gone luckily.
