CPAP is giving me crippling sinus headaches

Post by Diotima » Fri Aug 23, 2019 7:47 am

So these headaches have been increasing in intensity and it feels like it extends one nostil I breathe through presumably at night up to around around the left side of my head... I feel even worse off than I did pre-CPAP in some ways. I'm extremely tired and I feel as if the "high" I was initially has worn off. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Are you having any nasal or sinus symptoms associated with the headaches?
Like itchy nose, pressure in sinuses, congestion, drainage, sneezing???

Are you using a humidifier...if so, at what setting?
Are you using a heated hose or not?

No itchy nose

Yes to sinus pressure

No maybe some mild congestion but nothing serious

No drainage

No sneezing

I'm using humidifier on setting 5

Yes to heated hose

I'm almost wanting to blame the heated hose as I don't recall these issues pre-Heated Hose.

Try turning down the humidity to a low level (if any at all) for a few nights and see if you still have a problem. 5 is a high setting and if you actually don't need it because local humidity is adequate, you're essentially giving yourself sinus trouble.

I'll try tuning it down to 2 and use the non-heated hose tonight see if it gets better.

The setting of 5 isn't really all that high with the AirSense machines. It will go to 8...so barely above halfway.

What is the temp of the hose air? You do know that it is a separate setting when using the heated hose?

You can try lowering the humidity and see if it makes any difference or not.

I don't recommend changing 2 things at one time though because if you notice a remarkable difference you won't know which change might have contributed to the difference.
So I wouldn't change both the hose and the humidity setting at the same time right now.

See your doctor.
An infection is more likely than trouble with your machine.
Delayed treatment will only exacerbate the problem.

So it's been around 2 days and I'm sure what I feel are TMJ headaches.... pretty sure its not a infection. Still not sure its connected to CPAP.

Have you ever had issues with trigeminal neuralgia? If so, headgear could be pushing on a sensitive spot. Your description of the location made me ask. If not, disregard.
