SleepTech API

Post by GoldenSlumbers » Mon Jan 11, 2021 1:02 am

Hi everyone I am new to this site. British technical writer with a some software development. Presently I live on the border of Portugal and Spain, a town named Valenca do Minho.ww
Since the pandemic I have been unemployed.
I suffer from insomnia, not just because of my apnea, which was logged as 14.5 AHI in my sleep study in 2018, but also due to anxiety and sometimes IBS, and I have put on about 12k kilos in the past year.
I want to get back into software development by writing an sleeptech app. The idea is to aggregate data from a CPAP machine with data from fitness monitors such as the fitbit charge or Apple watch.
The idea is to create an all round sleep and fitness app that monitors and motivates physical activity as well as sleep, since the two are closely related. My main physical activities are walking, swimming and surfing.
I am using a Resmed autosense 10, the data is in the cloud but the company which is hiring the machine says I can't have access to it. But I also have a Phillips Dreamstation which saves data on a card
If anyone can help me with the development, or knows someone who can, please get in touch.

Best wishes
Stephen Thompson

Hello Stephen and welcome!

Your suggestion is admirable - you should definitely check out the OSCAR software project (thread at the top of the forum) - this is the culmination of many individuals work to collect and present data from a number of CPAP/APAP machines. You can probably plug into that.

Good luck!

Hi GoldenSlumbers,

Er, you do know that there is already shareware in existence which lets ordinary people/ patients see their CPAP data? It's called OSCAR.

You'll find info about it in a 'tied' position at the top of the Topics section on the Home page.

Also, it's probably best not to sign your name at the same time as identifying the (likely) small town where you live... asking for harrassment if not worse.

By "app" you mean mobile?

Worth noting that while OSCAR is open source and has implemented a lot of the hard work to read diverse proprietary sleep data, there is no mobile version of it.

Might you be open to considering developing that, extending it as you are imagining?

Do look into Oscar. You'll see that it can import data from several sources: Zeo, Dreem, Somnopose, Viatom, and a number of oximeters.
Oscar software is available at https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/

Hi everyone I am new to this site.
welcome to the zoo!

as mentioned, there's the oscar software. the authors of said software are members of the forum. bluedragon is one such and comes here frequently, so that might be a start for you into looking at what is available now.

good luck!

I would love to be harrassed by frustrated CPAP users here, it is a sleepy town nothing as exciting as that has ever happened!

The ResMed data stored in the cloud is the summary and compliance data, not the detail data you would need for such an app.

And ResMed is quite capable of storing its detail data on an SD Card as well.

But as others have suggested, a lot of what you want to do has been done within OSCAR. Instead of re-inventing the wheel, take advantage of the the thousands of man hours that lead to the creation of OSCAR and join the team.

Golden slumbers kiss your eyes,
Smiles awake you when you rise ;
Sleep, pretty wantons, do not cry,
And I will sing a lullaby,
Rock them, rock them, lullaby.
Care is heavy, therefore sleep you,
You are care, and care must keep you ;
Sleep, pretty wantons, do not cry,
And I will sing a lullaby,
Rock them, rock them, lullaby.
