Mouth breathing with a full face mask

Post by pitman » Mon Jun 28, 2021 8:11 pm

I am definitely a mouth breather. I have tried many different masks and am using a FF mask now. The CPAP is not detecting any major leaks. Would using a scunci and or cervical collar land me better therapy? Or does mouth breathing matter when using a FF mask?

Thanks!

I use surgical tape, to tape my mouth shut. But I use a nasal mask. Works for me.

You can mouth breath using a full face mask.

I use a full face mask nightly and I mouth breathe. That is one of the benefits of the full face mask.

The whole point of a full face mask is so you CAN mouth breathe. I have a deviated septum and one nostril is only maybe 40% open, I really can’t breathe just through my nose most days.

Those of us that use full face masks do so because we are mouth breathers. During the day, I breath through my nose. However, once I fall asleep, I revert to mouth breathing, so I use a full face mask. However, I also use a firm, foam cervical collar. It helps to hold my chin up which helps to keep my throat open so I can get by with a little less pressure. Keeping my mouth closed also helps keep my mouth from getting dry during the night.
