Looking for opinions on Nasal Aire and also cold/flu issues

Post by Ben Apnea » Wed Oct 20, 2004 2:22 pm

I was hoping to hear opinions on the innomed nasal aire system. When I went for my cpap machine and mask the respiratory therapist asked me what type of mask I would like. Having only used one type for one night during my 2nd sleep study (some form of a mirage), I had no idea what to tell him. I was intrigued by the potentially less claustraphobic effect of the nasal aire system and went with it. I am experiencing some leaks but I am hesitant to draw any conclucions because of my lack of experience with other masks. Any opinions would be much appreciated. Also, what am I supposed to do when I get a cold and am too congested for this system to be effective? Thanks in advance to a great site full of obviously great people. Keeping the faith in Fla...

Hi Ben,

When I have a stuffy nose cold, I use a full face mask. Despite the name "full face", it covers only the nose and mouth, not the entire face. A full face mask allows you to breathe through your mouth when you just can't pull enough air in through a stopped up nose. Good thing to have in your arsenal of masks, even if you don't have to use it many times during the year.

If you like the openess of the NA you're using now, you probably would also like Puritan Bennett's Breeze with nasal pillows (my favorite) or the new Swift by ResMed. It's always nice to have several different interfaces to switch to, if one (even an old favorite mask) begins to be bothersome.
