Re: Waiting for CPAP/APAP machine is torture!
how long do you need to wait for a machine? I had to wait like 6 weeks to get my test results, and got a machine then - that in its self was torture. if its a case of waiting for an appointment, see if there is a cancellation list you can go on.

Re: exercise, heart rate recovery and apnoea
Have certainly read about people only finding their apnoea after cardiac problems. I'm hoping to access the full article, as 'beneficial' is not the same as 'statistically significant',and so far it's the most relevant article I've found. Might need to befriend some uni students who hve proper journ...

exercise, heart rate recovery and apnoea
so i was doing some reading online, and discovered theres some research showing that in untreated apnoea, heart rate recovery times are significantly worse compared to those who dont have apnoea. but i cant find anything to say what happens to the recovery time once you are on treatment - other than...

Re: Suddenly feeling claustrophobic / panicky
Don't confuse a panicky feeling with a panic attack. Two very different things. And if it is a panic attack I'd see a Dr (unless you are experienced in mental health and are happy to self manage). Could be a dream or an apnoea, just a noise or something waking you up suddenly, hence the feeling of pa...

Re: Newbie with gas!!!
Use the machine -it's likely the gas will come back on the machine,so taking a few days break, while probably not doing harm isn't ideal. That's a lot of apnoeas in a night so it's worth letting your sleep clinic know what's happening ,or see your regular dr about medication if needs be - ur chemist...

Re: Newly Diagnosed Skeptic
You tend to find most people feel sleep studies underestimate apnoea - if you only sleep a few hours compared to the 8 you'd get at home, you miss a lot of events. I think the data is pretty stright forward, you stop breathing that's an apnoea. So if the mahine recorded it, you are having it. It's s...

Re: Regular Cpap vs Apap?
Some people find the straight pressure of a cpap treats them more effectively, and let's them sleep more soundly - some people find the changing pressure of an apap wakes them. Where did you get this information? I can't remember specifically - I've had related discussions with my sleep clinic, ple...

Re: Options available for droolers and mouth breathers? New User
As to the drooling you may just get used to that, if there's nothing medically causing it (like medications or health problems). It may be that ignoring it is better than getting up through the night. Equally, cleaning it through the night is better than untreated apnoea - fatigue and headaches is t...

But yes, better to have an apap so it can be set as a cpap. Also long term it is easier for self diagnostic type stuff. It's...

Re: First Night
Think about the long game... one rough night (especially at first) is fine, hopefully you will adjust fine, and feel the benefits. You have slept for so many years with nothing on your face, getting used to a clunky bit plastic can take a bit of time. And then, it doesn't feel like a clunky bit plasti...

Re: Headache even after 8hrs of Cpap use
"it may be a physiotherapist (or indeed sleep specialist) will help more than a neurologist" That is just plain ignorant - ridiculous! Though of course you might end up being referred to a physio by any doctor. Sorry I offenfed you with my suggestion. I suppose it's not obvious I'm operating on a U...

Re: Headache even after 8hrs of Cpap use
There are a lot of things that can cause headaches. I'd start with my regular dr, before getting referal - it may be a physiotherapist (or indeed sleep specialist) will help more than a neurologist, and your regular Dr may be able to point you in the right direction. Do try and use your cpap more - ...

Re: Headache even after 8hrs of Cpap use
Is your ahi 13 on treatment,or was that before treatment?
Headaches have a lot of causes apart from apnoea, so if your apnoea treatment looks good (which sounds iffy just now? ),push for other investigations/ treatment.

I wonder if hairspray would help? It's used to keep hair bands and fascinators in place, so maybe?

Re: Mask too tight?
If its uncomfortable, it's not a good fit. So maybe a different size,a mask liner, a different mask? Id assume a fitting guide is on the internet some where,so have a check of that to see if it appears to be sitting in the right spot or not. But also, do play around with fitting it nearer your actua...
