Chicago Granny - Well, here goes, it's an "and" for me, not an "or." Same allergist for >20 years, and also under the care of an ENT in recent years. You crystallized the problem for me, which is that I have lots of health issues. Significant environmental allergies, mild/moderate asthma, acid reflux, a PFO (which is a congenital hole in the atrial wall), and a small intracranial aneurism. It's a lot of small, stupid stuff because I can still work and work out intensely. I manage everything. The OSA diagnosis is just another incurable but treatable thing in my life.
Well, there is a connection between sleep apnea and a couple of those other problems. Breathing filtered CPAP air may help with allergies - particularly allergies to dust mite poop. This is on everyone's bed sheets. With CPAP, your nose is not right in it. Your air is coming from the nightstand and filtered. It helped me.

Then there is reflux. Quite often, reflux is cause by sleep apnea - the struggle to breath results in the diaphragm muscle expelling small amounts of stomach contents up into the airway. CPAP might prevent this.

. . . It's not like you're going to spring "Oh, btw, I'm a serial killer" on them. . . .
I believe I remember reading somewhere that it's best to wait until around the third date to mention that.

I was like 25 years old when I was diagnosed. I was a single mom at the time. I was always just up front about it very early on. When I started dating the man who is now my husband I mentioned it on our first date.......he was talking about how he liked star wars and I told him that was great because I had a super great Vader mask that kept me alive at night. 😂😂😂 He is a weirdo who found the rhythm of it soothing and said it was almost like listening to a rain soundtrack to fall asleep. It was not nearly as big of a deal as I had built up in my head. I will be 38 this year. If I ever end up in the dating pool again.....I figure my 2 kids and whatever happened to my husband are a much bigger conversation than my cpap.

As a chronic dater I was worried about my mask being a 3rd wheel, but surprisingly I have never had a bad reaction to it. I even had one girl say that the faint inhale/exhale coming from the machine made a great white noise that helped her sleep. (Resmed S9 at the time)

I'll go a step further and say that my pre CPAP snoring was to blame for most of my relationships failing. I've been told my snoring could "Move mountains".

Maybe hold off on playfully chasing your partner around the room with your mask on and hose dangling Benny Hill style for a bit lol

I have not dated since diagnosis in September 2017 but I am starting back up and it already came up seems the lady I will have dinner with her brother has CPAP she was very accepting. It is a long way from getting to the bedroom but it seems being direct is the best way to be.

Don't worry so much about it. After a divorce, many people have a hard time. Many become depressed and lonely. I believe that first you should dig into yourself and understand why you want to hide this fact.
Zombie thread alert...

Sakanid, this post is years old...

I wonder if zombies put hot sauce on their food.
My landlady fried sheep brains once--she peppered the hell out of it.
I always liked my mother's mountain oyster recipe.
Tried it somewhere else--they used a ton of cayenne--stupid,
Couldn't even taste the nuts.
