When urinate SPO2 level drops

Post by 2Heart » Sun Jan 09, 2022 6:53 pm

Hi, I am a male. Every time I urinate (standing position) my SP02 can drop down to as low as 81% then steadily climbs back up to 98%-99% or so when I am done. Is this normal?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Effort causes drops in blood oxygen.
If you are concerned, call your doctor.

Chunkyfrog, thanks for you reply.

The problem is I am dealing with Colchicine poisoning for about a year now, had 7 months of tachycardia/palpitation and a host other issues caused by it. I do not trust doctor's opinions as they're trying to protect their own. I saw so many doctors non would even dare to admit to me I got Colchicine poisoning. Hence, I am seeking help online. I am through very difficult times now.

It sounds like you may have some serious medical issues. I’m sorry to hear that. The people here don’t have the medical expertise to help you, I’m guessing. The trick is for you to find a doctor you can trust. Do you have friends, family, or neighbors who have doctors they think are straight shooters? That might be one way to find a doctor you can feel comfortable with.

If you have/had C. poisoning there has to be a medical lab record of it and if there isn't and you're just guessing, that's not the smartest way to go however much you might think it is. Doctors wouldn't deny your belief unless there was some reason behind it. BUT the business of 'trying to protect their own' is nonsense - working x 30 yrs in teaching hospitals definitely proved that was wrong.

Try continuing breathing while urinating.

This was my first thought. Sometimes when I'm concentrating on doing something I'll find myself holding my breath. Not while urinating though.

Through this ordeal I met an individual who also had colchicine poisoning, they used very similar tactics on him as they used on me. We got sent going in circles but with no answers or dishonest answers or "don't know the cause".
Almost a handful specialists he saw they all tried to blame it on anxiety as they did with me. He lost his handsome paid job because he became a liability to the company he worked for. His heart and whole body
was in so much pain he couldn't get out off bed to even cook.

I am telling nothing but the truth, and it's a horrible experience! I am just hoping my heart recovers, and not eventually dying of heart failure down the road. I am still young.

I would like to thank everyone for replying me. thanks.

As SP02 drops during urination I experience my chest suddenly tightens(shortness of breath), head stiffens/numb up, a sense of difficulty swallowing, extremities tingling(especially the feet), legs start to weaken, feel lightheaded/dizzy and increased pain in lower back (kidneys area). These symptoms remain for an hour or so after urination then subside.

I will try your suggestion.

Is this occurring at night if getting up to urinate or in the daytime as well? Have you had a sleep study and are you on CPAP therapy? Are you using a wearable O2SP monitor such as a Wellue O2Ring while sleeping?

Prior to CPAP my SPO2 levels were dropping during the night and enough to awaken me. The awakening caused me to make bathroom trips 6 or 7 times during the night. While I don't know what my O2SP levels were when I walked to the bathroom and urinated, they conceivably could been low and risen while awakening. Since I've been on CPAP my bathroom trips are down to none or occasionally one.

With what you have going on I would think a recording monitor would be warranted that could show a doctor the drop in SPO2 and could possibly be done in conjunction with a Holter monitor to ensure no heart problems (https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-proced ... c-20385039).

Yep, see a doc ASAP.

This is screen shot of my SPO2 with the Wellue O2Ring prior to a sleep study and subsequent CPAP usage.

Colchicine is only used to primarily treat gout and familial Mediterranean fever. In the past i took colchicine for gout, what were you taking it for?

Get a referral to a urologist; and get over your trust issues.
Your life could depend on it.

The 'light head/dizzy' symptom along with the urination. Something to ask the doc about when you go as one possibility.....
