Rapid breathing, Mouth leaks, Poor Rem Sleep

Post by Jwicks1995 » Wed Mar 07, 2018 2:26 am

Hey guys.
Feeling quite down due to how all over the place my sleeping is. I track stages every night. I seem to feel MUCH worse the nights i have more arousels. These are mostly always due to mouth leaks and suspected aerophagia. Im an very thin and have a small Jaw and large tongue. During REM sleep my mouth muscles relax more and my mouth blows up causing me to wake. I use chin strap and tape. However all this does is prevent the air from coming out my mouth, my cheecks still blow up. I feel as if this causes my mind stress and makes me also breathe quicker. Causing me to awake and fragmented rem sleep causing brain fog. I also feel as if i swallow the air leading to my excessive bloating and gastrointestinal issues. I used to use a mouth guard but it didnt work. I am going to keep using this and extending so the air does not blow into my mouth. Any suggestions on how to fix? Pressure is 7 continuous. No EPR. Would EPR reduce this annoyance? I just want consistent refreshing sleep. Ahi always less than 1. Thanks.

Also i feel very bad when I use FFM. As i believe this to he from heavy breathing.

So easy to help you without any info.

What machine/model do you have? What mask? What pressure settings? What are you using to 'track stages'? Are you going to show us those reports?

Have you tried anything for the aerophagia?

If possible, you should use sleepyhead to review your sleep. See the three links below.
Your AHI is low. I don't know if EPR will help but you should certainly try it.
Your pressure is relatively low so I am surprised that it is causing mouth leaking. I use the Ultimate Chin Strap. It limits mouth leaking and surpresses cheek expansion.

7 is not enough for a large tongue, which can completely block the airway in REM sleep. On the other hand, you are already having issues with mouth leaks..

How long have you been using this pressure? I had similar issues when bumped up to 10 cm but over last couple weeks it's gotten better but not completely gone.
