Newbie: AHI fluctuations normal just starting out?

Post by DoubleB65 » Wed Mar 07, 2018 7:49 pm

Tomorrow makes two weeks since I started CPAP. It’s not been as hard to get used to as I thought but I do have a question

My mask shows 100% nightly and no major leaks. By my AhI takes wild swings. Two nights ago it was 2.7 but last night was 17.4. Does it take a while for things to level out or is this totally abnormal? I’d say over the last two weeks it’s averaged 10-11.

Advise and thoughts please? Am concerned.

You need to figure out WHY it was 17.4. hopefully your machine works with sleepyhead.

Thanks. I filled out the Equipment profile.

So how do u go about figuring out why it was 17.4? I mean this is ALL new to me and I don’t have a follow up with my sleep dr for a couple more weeks. I’ve read quite a bit on here but can’t really find the answers I seek so I thought I’d ask.

I have a DreamStation and Dreamwear Nasal mask. Actually started with a full face mask and changed t to the nasal mask three days ago so last three nights had the lowest and the highest nights both.

My AHI the last two weeks has been 11.7, 13.5, 8.6, 9.5, 4.7, 7.4, 12.4, 7.4, 11.7, 13,5, 8.6, 9.5, 4.7, 7.4, 12.4, 7.4, 11.7, 17.3, 2.4 and 15.2. That seems all over the place to me.

Tracking with the Dream Mapper app....

What is the model number for your Respironics DreamStation machine?
The model number is usually on a little sticker on the bottom and will start with DSX then 3 digits..either 200 or 400 or 500 and followed by 3 or 4 letters.

I'll get the model number this evening once I get home from work. Another variation last night. Was down to 5.6 from 15.2 the night before. Still not sleeping much though.

please see tedvpap's reply above. he shows three links at the bottom of his reply. click on those and start learning how to post the graphs that sleepyhead will generate for you.

then, some one much smarter than i will show you how to optimize your therapy. :)
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

If you want us to tell you what we think of your results we need to see what you are seeing.
See this thread for how we do that
viewtopic/t158560/How-to-post-images-for-review.html
If we can't see what is going on we are just guessing and we don't like to guess when there is a way to see what is going on.

Thanks! Working on it now. It’s a bit overwhelming and I hate Windows 10 on this laptop I use. But I appreciate the suggestions and help so much!

How much time do you think you end up sleeping on your back?

Most of it is my bet. I’ve always been a back sleeper. Here in the last couple of months due to a leg injury that hurts some when laying on it I’ve been on my back a lot.
