Contec CMS50F SpO2 results - fluctuating during night

Post by WarpedTrekker » Fri Mar 16, 2018 7:05 am

Anyone use this device or another O2 monitor? Is it normal for it to flucuate so much at night?
When I first go to sleep, my O2 and HR are both rather calm. Then sometime during the night, each starts flucuating a lot. This cycle repeats itself. Last night, my AHI was 0.00.

Is this caused by REM sleep?

It is not the monitor you need to worry about, it is YOUR O2 saturation level.

Yes it will vary. If you are spending much time below 88%, you need to talk to your doctor about a solution.

My solution has been to use an O2 concentrator to add oxygen to my PAP therapy.

We need to see the whole nights chart. And also the summary page that includes device artifact %. Helpful to zoom in on moments lower than 90% as well, to see if they are because of loss of contact, moving around/changing positions, etc. Unless you see sustained desaturations it's probably not a big deal, but we need more info.

If your concerned you should definitely let you Dr know.

The following is not medical advice but sharing what my Dr's opinion was.

I sent this image Image along with a similar one to my pulmonologist and she wasn't concerned. She said it was probably REM sleep related and the desaturation was not throughout the night and confined to that one point in time.

I use a CMS-50f.
Make sure your finger is seated well in the finger probe before and after a nights sleep.
The middle finger works best for me. Otherwise the finger, especially the ring finger (for me), works itself loose. Good luck. :)
