Philips Dreamstation APAP ramps up but not down

Post by fbwap » Fri Mar 16, 2018 8:06 am

I have been using a CPAP machine for 9 years. I just got an APAP machine. The doctor wants it set from 9 to 15. My problem is that it does ramp up to 15, but never ramps back down.

I rolled over on my side (where low pressure is needed) and watched the clock for a full half hour this morning. It never backed off from 15.

Is this inherent in the design of this machine? All APAP machines? Is my particular machine broke? Is my machine incompatible with my breathing style?

Thanks

It goes up slowly and comes down slowly.
If it goes up and stays up then it thinks it has a good reason to be up there.
Now if you are awake for 30 minutes and it doesn't budge off 15 then obviously if you are for sure awake the entire time it can't be from sleep apnea events because you are awake and you can't have sleep apnea events while awake. You gotta be asleep.

Use available software to see what is going on with your breathing. Perhaps awake breathing irregularities have caused the machine to want to keep that pressure up there.
Remember these machines only measure air flow. They have no idea if you are awake or not.

Check to make sure it is set to APAP and not CPAP. Are you using Ramp?

Good suggestion! Rule in/out the simplest explanation first.
