I misspoke when I said it was 9-15. This new machine is set 5-15 for a month so they can find a new pressure for me. This is my first experience with an adjustable pressure - my old machine had a pressure of 9. But the split study was not good - they couldn't get a good pressure because the mask I was wearing was leaking and they never bothered to adjust it. It was a bad experience overall.

Is that initial setting of 5 making it seem harder to breathe for me, then? I wonder if I can change the low threshold to 9, that this face mask would work? Not sure how to access the clinical settings - will look around after work. Maybe I will keep this mask for one more night if I can change that setting. Whatever is happening right now, it's not working!

Yep.

It will work fine at whatever minimum you are comfortable with....you might split the difference and try 7 and see how it does but it will work with 9 also.

Not sure how to access the clinical settings -
Explained in the manual I linked to earlier but here it is again. Page 14
https://sleep.tnet.com/home/files/resme ... -guide.pdf

Do take the time to download and read the manual. It's got a lot of really useful information in it about what your machine can do and explains a lot of new stuff.

Accessing and exiting the Clinical Menu

Press and hold the dial and the Home button for three seconds.
The Home screen is displayed with an unlock icon
in the top right corner of the screen.

I'd recommend changing the settings to 9-20

New to this forum, not new (sadly) to Cpap.
Sorry... I read your intro too fast. I see that you're experienced, just not with the new equipment.
It sounds like you've gotten good advice from others on adjusting to your new machine.
Best wishes!

Changed my min pressure to 9 on my new machine - that feeling of drowning or suffocating has REALLY been bothering me - especially when I've had sleep apnea for 5 years and didn't feel like that before. Have not returned the Dreamwear full face mask yet - will try it tonight and see if the higher min makes a difference. I have the trusty Swift FX handy for back up. THANK YOU ALL for your help! I noticed that it wasn't set up as having a filter in settings - does that matter? Can't wait to go to bed tonight - just have to remember to take the SD card outta the laptop. :)

Silly question - will this tick off the DME? I assume they will see that change on their end? I'd guess I have to be compliant with this new machine to make sure insurance covers it. Didn't feel like asking for permission. :) Figure it's easier to apologize after if they even care?

You all are awesome!!!

If SleepyHead is saying no filter and you know for sure there is a filter in place just ignore SleepyHead.
Sometimes it gets a little messed up with those setting details. It tells me all the time that my humidifier isn't hooked up and I know darn well it is.

For insurance compliance requirements it's only hours of use...not at specific settings.
Most the time the insurance doesn't even have a clue what your settings are. They only care that you use the machine the required number of hours each night at whatever pressure.

If anyone squawks about the pressure change it will be the DME and just tell them you were used to 9 and any lower made you feel like you were suffocating and couldn't sleep...so it was either be comfortable with more pressure and get the sleep or not sleep and not use the machine. They will get over it.

No, it was the machine telling me there was no filter, but I know that one is installed (I looked at it). Not sure that really matters. Sure am grateful for all the guidance. :) Kara

If the machine was telling you no filter and you know there is one go ahead and take out the filter and put it back in.
Maybe a little sensor something is not triggering it.
I have not used a DreamStation so I am not familiar with that model. I have used past Respironics models and I don't recall ever being told that it didn't have a filter in place when I did or even if it would offer that reminder.

If it's the machine doing the reminder...something is up. Don't ignore it.

Stupid question - the filter is the little white rectangle, right? Cause that's in there. And it's not a Dreamstation - it's a ResMed Airsense 10 Autoset. Sorry for any confusion. Going to bed now!

Sorry...where did I get DreamStation??
I have had a bad day.

Anyway...yes...the ResMed AirSense only has one white filter and I am not sure why the machine would have told you that there is no filter if it is obviously there.
That's not normal.
If it happens again write down exactly what the reminder says.
To my knowledge the only reminder you might see is "time to replace the filter" .

I have an AirSense machine. I will go remove the filter and see if it tells me anything.  Report back shortly.

Edit...removed filter...turned the machine on ...no notice about anything pertaining to the filter one way or the other.
Made note to self...time to change filters because mine is starting to get yucky looking but I can't remember where the package of filters is.

I'm *guessing* she's talking about the filter reminder.

That's my first thought. I used to get those annoying reminders until I figured out how to turn them off and it's been so long now that I don't remember the exact wording.

On the s9, it's in that third page in the hidden settings that I never go into

How does this look? Used my old Swift FX for her mask, min pressure set to 9. Had a weird thing happen that never happened before, got up to go to the bathroom (that's not the weird thing - that's a normal thing!) and when I put the mask back on and turned the machine on again (I turned off that auto on setting as it really annoyed me), it made a bit of a gurgling noise and it felt funny, I took it off for a second and water sputtered out of it! Like enough to make me think I shouldn't put it back on til it had dried out. What was that? That's never happened before. That freaked me out and so I laid it down to let it dry and fell back to sleep.

My AHI last night was 4.17 - that's better than before, but still a little disappointed it wasn't lower - though it looks like there were no leaks which is good. I only used it for 4.5 hrs.

Can someone help me interpret my sleepyhead report? Not sure what any of it means....baby steps!

Thanks! Kara

Water came out of the nasal pillows?
That's just condensation in the mask.
I get it when the bedroom temp drops too low for the heated hose to keep the air warm enough.
See this thread...posts number 2 and 3 for explanation in more detail and your options should it become annoying enough to want to do something about.
viewtopic/t94035/Pugsys-Pointers-3Deali ... -road.html

About last night...it's a decent enough report. The bulk of the higher than you would like to see AHI is that little cluster of stuff at around 1:30.
Your machine wanted to go higher than 15 at that time but couldn't. It was trying to keep the airway open and prevent those OAs but it couldn't because of the max limit of 15.
Now what changed at 1:30 to cause such a pressure need....usual 2 suspects are supine sleeping or REM Stage sleep or maybe sleeping on your back during REM combination.
If it were me I would just open up max to 20 and see what happens. It might be that all you needed to prevent that cluster was a pressure of 16 maybe. The machine won't go up there without a good reason. If you open the max to 20 and the machine only wants to go to 15.6 or 16...it won't go higher.

I sometimes see this sort of increase in those wee hours of the morning. For me it's REM stage sleep where my OSA is much worse and I often need higher pressures. I have seen brief times where I need 18 cm for say 20 minutes and then it goes back down to 9 or 10.

So don't worry about the moisture unless it happens often enough to be annoying or it wakes you up a lot...if that happens you have several options for reducing that annoyance.

Increase the max from 15 to 20 and see what happens. Might be all that you need to do is untie the machines hands a bit.
