Sleepyhead being BETA
a friend of mine said she didn't want to download it because it might have "bugs" only being BETA.
Is that a concern that's valid?

I've never heard of, "bugs" associated with Sleepyhead. To my knowledge, no one here or the Apnea Board has ever reported anything like that.

Re: Sleepyhead being BETA
Any "bugs" are minor issues with a couple of features and only affecting a few people.
No "bugs" as in bad bugs that would hurt your computer.
But some people don't want to mess with Beta and that's fine...go get ResScan or Encore Pro and deal with those PITA software and they have a few "bugs" too.
SleepyHead even with an occasional bug is a heckuva lot easier to manage than brand name software.

I've only come across one piece of significant software that never ended up having a single known bug.Barb (Seattle) wrote: ↑Sun Apr 08, 2018 11:45 ama friend of mine said she didn't want to download it because it might have "bugs" only being BETA.

Everything else is crawling with bugs... How often do (serious) bugs in your operating system get patched?
Your friend's concern is spurious.
As to sleepyhead being "beta" that's because the author always felt it was "under development" ... and not "finished".
And, yes, it does have bugs in it, but they're mostly insignificant, like not reporting the machine settings properly... but for the most part, the important bits, (the charts) are right.
Tell your friend to realize that we live in an imperfect world, and that includes software, pretty much all software has bugs.

I've been saying, for a long time that ResScan is for masochists... and Encore Pro for hard core devoted masochists.Pugsy wrote: ↑Sun Apr 08, 2018 12:16 pmAny "bugs" are minor issues with a couple of features and only affecting a few people.

Re: Sleepyhead being BETA
If your friend is going to wait for perfect software without bugs, he or she is going to have a very long wait. I've dealt with computers and software for over 35 years including time as a code writer, and I have never heard of a perfect piece of software that didn't have bugs of some sort in it. If someone wants to wait until something is perfect, they are in for a very long wait.

The wonderful experience that tens of thousands of users have had with Sleepyhead should speak for itself.Barb (Seattle) wrote: ↑Sun Apr 08, 2018 11:45 ama friend of mine said she didn't want to download it because it might have "bugs" only being BETA.

Re: Sleepyhead being BETA
I would say it is not a valid concern if you download from the current SleepyHead site. See link below. I have seen very minor bugs in it. With my Wife's S9 it reports the Ramp is off, but it is actually on. With my A10 it reports the Auto Climate is off, but it is actually in Auto. Small stuff.Barb (Seattle) wrote: ↑Sun Apr 08, 2018 11:45 ama friend of mine said she didn't want to download it because it might have "bugs" only being BETA.

All I have is an iPad and an iPhone. I don’t think I can download sleepyhead can I? It seems I need a desktop PC in order to run the software. Is there a workaround for it?Ron AKA wrote:I would say it is not a valid concern if you download from the current SleepyHead site. See link below. I have seen very minor bugs in it. I’m a new cpap user. One week in. Sleep study showed me an AHI of 26. A week in and my AHI is running between 1.2 and 2. My equipment is ResMed Airsense 10 Autoset. My mask is ResMed Mirage FX. I’m getting limited data from the machine’s daily reporting.

There is no SleepyHead version that ill work on an iPhone or iPad. Needs to be a computer of sorts. PC., Mac or even one of the other operaing systems like Ubuntu or Linux.Scluvsrain wrote: ↑Sun Apr 08, 2018 9:01 pmAll I have is an iPad and an iPhone. I don’t think I can download sleepyhead can I? You do have some limited daily details on the machines screen. It doesn't have all the details but it's probably close enough to get you in the ball park.
If you are sleeping good, feeling good, AHI is nice and low and leaks are low then probably there won't be a lot of much to show up on the detailed reports but you never know for sur.

Re: Sleepyhead being BETA
The daily report I get from the myAir app that goes with my machine doesn’t give me leak data. I think that’s the one thing I’d like to know after doing some limited reading of this forum. I do have some minor scuffles with my mask. It just gives me a score about good mask seal.
Re: Sleepyhead being BETA
The ResMed machines that gather full data will give a 95% leak number on the machines LCD screen but you have to be using the LCD screen data to see it and you have to know where to look.
I think the My Air leak report is a different value and they use a percentage to reflect leak management with 100% being no large leaks.
The machine itself reports excess leaks in L/min and a 95 % number which all that means is at OR BELOW that number for 955 of the night.
All explained in the manual.

Re: Sleepyhead being BETA
Not sure if you use Sleepyhead, but if you do, tell your friend about your experience with it. 'I' don't think "bugs" is the right word here. A few minor issues maybe, but not enough to be concerned about downloading it. The data it provides is well worth the minor issues.Barb (Seattle) wrote: ↑Sun Apr 08, 2018 11:45 ama friend of mine said she didn't want to download it because it might have "bugs" only being BETA.

All software has bugs. A minor inconvenience.
I would think the question should be is it secure? Is that what the OP is trying to determine?
