Hello. I've been on a CPAP about 3 years now. It has by far had the most positive impact of anything I have ever experienced on my health.

I am an insulin dependant diabetic and thought my everyday drowsiness was symtomatic of high blood sugar. Sounded reasonable but I couldn't get any doctor to agree with me. It really became a severe problem when I started going to sleep driving. Went off the road several times; luckly without injurying anyone. One day I went off a bridge carrying 2 tons of horse feed on a trailer. Again, God was watching over me. Other than being shaken a little, the only damage was to my truck and trailer. I stopped driving, but my drowsiness continued to worsen. Literally thought I was loosing my mind.

Finally after a sleep study found I was low on oxygen and just not getting any rest while I slept, doctor put me on a CPAP. First time I used it, I thought I might never get out of bed. It seemed like it was the first time in no telling how many months I'd had a restful night's sleep.

I use it religiousily now and really think it probably saved my life!

Hi Ed,

Glad you found your way to this forum. I used to get sleepy driving - it's a wonder I never had a wreck. You were indeed lucky to survive such a "wake up call." That's great that cpap has been giving you good therapy for so many years. Hope you continue to have a long lifetime of wonderful, restful nights!

You should post your same message in the "cpap and sleep apnea" section of this board where more users will see it. Your success would be an inspiration to others who are just starting out, and are perhaps wondering if they can really "stick with it" and "will it really make a difference."

Hi and Welcome!
I, too, got extremely sleepy while driving. I did fall asleep last spring and crossed the center line headed right for another vehicle. Luckily, my husband was with me and saved us. That's when I finally accepted the fact that I had a serious problem.

I was one of the stoplight catnappers too. I couldn't even drive to a town a half hour away without stopping in the middle and closing my eyes for five minutes in order to continue on.

I know and have been told by my doctors that CPAP definitely has saved my life! I'm still working my way back to good health (only been on CPAP for two months) but I can't believe how good I am starting to feel and ALERT!

This is a great forum. I really look forward to reading up on it every day. Lots of encouragement here.
CPAP has saved my life!!
