Air Quality affecting sleep
Air Quality affecting sleep
The air quality here is terrible--AQI in the 200's! This is smoke from the Butte County, California fires--we are 100 miles away (my heart goes out to the people in Butte County!). Schools are closed and I wear a mask during my short trip back and forth to the office.
I'm not sleeping almost very much at all (I think PTSD from our fires last year is contributing) and with typical bad timing I don't have any filters in the house for my Airsense. I ordered a package of 52 from Amazon (less than $12) and paid for expedited shipping so they will arrive tomorrow. They were inexpensive enough that I can change it every day if need be.
If you are anywhere near a fire or smoke zone, take care and be safe. If anyone from Butte County needs supplies, please let us know.

Re: Air Quality affecting sleep
Thanks for reminding us about air quality. The impact on those directly affected is well-covered by the media. However, the impact on those who are safe from the flames does not get publicity.
Re: Air Quality affecting sleep
I understand. We are about 25 miles from the Woolsey fire in southern California. When the wind blows this way, we get some smoke. Was wondering if my machine is going to retain the smell, but so far so good. I'm just grateful this is the extent of my problems, being well aware it could be so much worse. I cannot imagine the horror that accompanies the footage we're seeing of the fires.

Definitely. I don’t mean to complain. We feel grateful our neighborhood was saved last year and my heart goes out to those experiencing it now.kteague wrote: ↑Tue Nov 13, 2018 6:21 pmI understand. Re: Air Quality affecting sleep
I hear ya Jan, we have had 2 summers in a row with wild fires about 40 minutes away from us and it was not fun to even be outside let alone in the house. I also have asthma, so changing my filters at least once a week was the norm. I kept the air conditioning off too to lessen the smoke invasion inside. There was no lingering smoke smell in my machine after all the fires were out and we got some blessed rain. We lost almost all of Waterton National Park, also your Galcier Park adjacent to Waterton., there was no loss of life but lots on cattle and horses perished. Be safe.
Cheers

Perspective can set you on your heels.
I was grousing about Kansas burning off their prairie every spring--wafting smoke into Nebraska;
This year, the wind blew the smoke AWAY from us.
And I forgot to be GRATEFUL.
Bad frog!

Really.
Re: Air Quality affecting sleep
Hi Jan, yesterday afternoon the Sacramento area reached the Hazardous category. Everyone around here also wearing masks now. And University and all schools are closed. Scary and sad.Janknitz wrote: ↑Tue Nov 13, 2018 3:24 pmThe air quality here is terrible--AQI in the 200's! I live a less than 10 miles from the fire, the air here is over 500. I changed my filter out a week ago and this is what it looked like tonight.
That is a new one below.

Re: Air Quality affecting sleep
I am in Oakland and the air has been at dangerous levels for days due to the fires.
For the first time in some 10 years of daily cpap usage, I am grateful to have the unit. The air filter is seriously helpful.
It's shocking to see how much crap it's screening out and preventing from getting into my lungs.

Yes, it continues to be terrible! I was in Monterey this weekend and the bad air followed me down there (fog and smoke!).
Rain predicted for Wednesday but so many people are living in tents now and a risk of mudslides. The people of Butte County need a break.
