New nasal pillow problems

Post by Scluvsrain » Thu May 03, 2018 9:39 am

I just got a new mask - the Resmed P10 Nasal Pillow for Her.

Last night I used it for the first time and had a tough time with it. At about 3 hours in to my sleep, I woke up with my nostrils hurting really bad, almost a burning feeling and felt a lot of pressure of the air blowing in.

I’m currently set at 8 min and 15 max.

I’m wondering two things - one, should I lower the pressures and two, maybe switch to a smaller size pillow. I started with the medium but maybe I should bump down to the small size. My nostrils felt like they might burst open!!

Would appreciate any advice. Just as a note, I switched over from the Mirage FX nasal mask to this pillow type and have been successfully using CPAP for a month now. I wanted to try the pillows to reduce real estate on my face and improve sleeping comfort.

First off try keeping your posts in the same thread.. You started one yesterday about the same mask .. With the P10 I think it is common for some soreness the first few days, I had the same issue, it goes away after some nights of use.. You could try the smaller size but watch for leaks ... Give it some time...

I considered using the same thread as yesterday but this issue seemed to be a new problem and I was concerned no one would read my comments about the trouble I experienced so I started a new thread. Sorry!!

Posting to an existing thread moves it to the top of the screen, just like a new thread.

By default, those who posted in the thread get notified there is a new posting. That does not happen with a new thread.

Did you change the setting on your machine to pillow?

And how is that going to help the hurting nostrils exactly?

If the previous setting is blowing air too hard into the nostrils at the startup, it may make things more comfortable.

Also - try moving the split straps around - you can make the pillows tighter or looser on your nostrils by doing this.

Doubt it will make any difference at all with that little of a change but whatever works for you ..

I did change the machine to pillow this morning. I had neglected to do that before sleep last night.

I’m going to try the small size pillows tonight and see how that goes.

Good luck, let us know how you feel after the nights sleep.. You should adjust to the pillows soon enough..

Sooooo. I used the small size pillows last night and had no leakage problems.

I woke up at the 4 hour mark and my nose had the chill burning feeling again but not as bad, so I persevered and got myself back to sleep again. I did some tossing and turning the rest of the night and woke fully again at the 8 hour mark.

My nostrils are tender, especially the left one. Not the insides so much, but the outer border edge. Kind of like they’re chapped.

When I woke this morning I was very excited to see my machine results - the MyAir app. To my disappointment the app only reported a score of 10! It didn’t register anything other than one mask on/off! ☹️☹️.

I had changed the machine using the clinical settings to the pillows mask type. I had NOT changed the MyAir app settings to the pillows though. Didn’t see that until this morning.

Do you think Sleepyhead will have picked up correct data from the SD card or will it, too, report incomplete data?

Give myair some time, in my area it may not pick up the previous days activity until near noon. I think their cellular contract by be for a bottom tier low traffic data time. Or someting like that.

My Air is a joke anyway .. Get Sleepyhead much better and way more useful ... Great to hear there was no leaks and the nose was not as painful some more time and you'll be loving it...

Here's my Sleepyhead screen shot for last night. It seemed to pick up the whole night's data unlike MyAir. The two Events were once when i woke up and adjusted my pillows, the other time was when I woke up in the morning and took the mask off.

Is there a way to warm up the air going into my nose? I don't use the humidifier, I am sleeping fine without it and don't really want to have to deal with water tank, cleaning, etc.

And for my irritated nostril area, is it okay to put chapstick or a cream there, or will that harm the pillows?
