Re: Help with VA rating
Regarding agent orange...my dad also served in Vietnam, and got service connection for agent orange a few years ago. Sadly he passed away. So I do not know anything about agent orange, I'm sorry you have to go through that, and I thank you for your service. Many veterans get service connected for sl...

Re: Help with VA rating
I'm not technically allowed to talk about the brand that I have lol. But a person gets a 50% rating if they are on CPAP, and have no symptoms while off of it. They do not address surgery. Like the MMA/GA I had done, where they cut off and advanced both of my jaws 1/2", pulled my chin out rotated it ...

Re: Help with VA rating
Hahaha...ask the VA...no its a fight with the VA all the time. And even they don't know the answer! So I'm just looking for if you were me, based on what I said in the post, where would you rate yourself? Way more complicated to say "hey doc, would I require tracheostomy", since it is so outdated. T...

Help with VA rating
I have been granted service connection with the VA for OSA after a long battle, and now I am faced with another battle of getting the proper rating. These are the ratings by the VA for sleep apnea (in percentages): 6847 Sleep Apnea Syndromes (Obstructive, Central, Mixed): Chronic respiratory failure...

Hey everyone
Hi, Been a while, but I have this so-called hypoglossal nerve stimulator, and it works great most of the time. When it doesn't work, i.e. I turn it off in my sleep, I feel the effects of not using it for a full 3 days (headaches/irritbility). So I guess that is how I know it actually works. To recap...

Thanks
Thanks

My journey thus far...
Hello, I have not been on this site in a LONG time, too long in fact. I was diagnosed with OSA in 2004, AHI of 37 in REM, 23 non REM. I was in my early twenties, recently married, and CPAP was not an option. I mean I had no choice but to use it, but the fear of it destroying my marriage cause me to ...

Thanks everyone! I did forget to mention...the last night I used CPAP was on August 8th, 2007...per the surgeon's recommendation. Also, my sleep doctor has agreed with me to have me only go on CPAP if I'm not feeling well. The point of the matter, the surgeon told me it could take a whole year for t...

GREAT NEWS!!!
I have not been on in a long time, but I have some great news to share with all of you... My last sleep study before my MMA/GA had an AHI of 53, with 80's O2 desat. I had the MMA/GA on 8-9-2007, and had a sleep study done about 3 weeks ago. The results?? An AHI of 7!!! (That is seven)!!! With O2 des...

3 Month Update
Just wanted to tell everyone that I am doing fine...still CPAP free! I am going in for a sleep study in 2 weeks, it may not reveal anything conclusive. I still can't feel my bottom lip, however I think the feeling is trying to come back. I have new xrays that show the 34 screws and 5 metal plates in...

6 week update
Hi all... I'm doing very well. Heading back to work on Monday, and I am not looking forward to that (mainly because I need about 10 hours of sleep a night, and I am getting up at 8am...I have to get up at 5:30 for work). I still have no bags under my eyes, which is very signficant, as I had bags und...

Surgery update
Hi everyone, I am doing better, still no cpap, but still taking pain meds so I am still tired. LOL. However, I have no bags under my eyes, which is a first!! Also, I will be out of work for 6 weeks instead of 4, as I am still drooling and still having some pain, and I really don't want to drool on e...

Starting to feel better...pics
Check out my pre/post surgery pics. Feeling better, sleeping more, still no cpap, and having more energy. As far as food is concerned my favorite so far is mashed potatoes and gravy pureed, through a syringe. http://byfiles.storage.live.com/y1pnPelt53ge6UYHJuZYKx2YC5i7-w-lzoAJqs40VBqEnGuCY885n5Gufq_...
