You can use any mask you want. Doesn't have to be ResMed at all. The choices are nasal, pillow and full face. Pretty simple.
The internet thing it mentions is for the lame MyAir crap. Don't bother registering unless you want some rather sophomoric reinforcement about how you are doing. They award points for how long you use the machine and how well controlled the leaks are and how low the AHI and they ding you points if you turn the machine off and back on during the night but the bulk of the score is hours of use and on/off dings.
Personally I don't need MyAir telling me I had a score of 90 last night and got dinged because I got up to deal with a barking dog.
I already know about how I slept and feel when I don't get enough sleep.

Some people like it though. They like the reinforcement that things are going well and getting an email telling them the score or a note on an app on their phone. That's fine for those people. Just not my thing.

You don't get in in depth evaluation of your nightly data. ResMed assumes the doctor is doing that. It won't tell you anything except maybe you need to see your doctor.

I never bothered registering any of my AirSense/Air Curve machines so it might be sending data somewhere but I don't care because they have no idea I have these machines since they were all bought privately and I haven't bothered to register them.

There is an airplane mode available to stop any transmissions but I haven't bothered with it because again...no one knows that I have the machine. The data that is transmitted is tied to a machine serial number and if they don't know who is using that serial number it's useless data.

Hi Pugsy,
I've been thinking about it all day and am pretty sure I will order the RESMED "For Her" model you like (the 3 machines in one will give me more options). I've read the guide you sent me along with other online info and all looks good. What I would like to have is your opinion of what improvements the ResMed model will have over my current Respironics machine as it pertains to my particular conditions that you are already aware of. I know all people are different but I would like a comparison, so to speak, to help rationalize this new investment. I know I can keep the Respironics machine as a back-up. It should last quite some time as I only have about seven nights on it now.
Thank you,
Mike

Is insurance involved in the machine you have now? If so, in order for payment, compliance will have to be proved on that machine. It gets tricky when insurance is involved.

The DreamStation isn't a crap machine. It's a really good machine and does what it is designed to do very well. It just does the auto adjusting thing differently...that's the main thing.
Which is better...a Ford or a Ram truck...my husband thinks Fords are better and his best friend thinks the Ram is a better truck.
And one might be better than the other depending on the job that you want it to do. The Ram gets better fuel mileage...
The Ford big diesel motor might be a bit tougher.

I can only offer you my observations based on the machines I have used and I have owned and used several Respironics of various models and various ResMeds of various models. I have NOT had the chance to use a DreamStation but I have used the apap PR S1 model which was its predecessor.

The ResMed is a wee bit more silent in terms of motor inhale/exhale noise if you are hearing any. My machines were all essentially silent and I had to strain to hear any motor noise and my husband said they were all silent.

Heated hose and humidity controls are essentially equal.

Main advantage for some people is the different quicker/faster more aggressive response of the ResMed when in auto adjusting mode.
I don't know if you will be one of those people or not and I know we can get your AHI down with the Respironics but it is going to take more minimum. The advantage with the ResMed...I think it can be done at a lower minimum. I might be wrong...I am not perfect but I will tell you this....I am betting you will love the machine every Respironics user that I have talked into this machine loves it.

Hey PR...what other advantages....my brain is a bit fried at the moment.

Here's one of my old Respironics reports in auto mode. 10 cm minimum exhale relief at the 2 cm max
Image

Here's a typical ResMed report in the for her mode. Note how the minimum went up and stayed up after the brief small little cluster of OAs in probable REM. Minimum 7 and EPR 3 so cm drop.

Image

And here's one where I didn't have 2 OAs within 1 minute so the minimum never went up and stayed up.

Image

I can get cleaner reports at less pressure using the ResMed. Not that I have a problem using more pressure but the inhale and exhale at 10/8 isn't quite as comfortable as the inhale and exhale at 7/4. So comfort and a tiny bit less noisy is why I like the ResMed better....and it's a nice plus that I get cleaner reports.

If I had extra $$ lying around I sure wouldn't spend it on a new machine if I had the Dreamstation Auto sitting there. Chances are you will never notice the difference. As far as the For Her Model, I'll bet that the majority of those that have it don't use the 3rd option anyway. Pugsy's right...its like comparing cars...some like Fords..some like Chevrolet.

The Resmed auto algorithm is more responsive to needs, it will raise pressure when the respironics will sit there and do nothing, which results in many people on the respironics having a higher AHI at the same pressures, or needing a higher pressure to effectively control their AHI.

As to my list of nitpicks, viewtopic.php?f=1&t=99737&p=927976#p927976

Most of those are applicable on the airsense10 vs dreamstation.

I think the resmeds are a better engineered machine, and they give better results for many people.

Pugsy's right, the respironics isn't a crap machine... it's just not, in my opinion... the best.

A decrease in inhale/exhale noise is alone reason enough for me to buy the RESMED model. That and a few other benefits mentioned in other posts in this thread. I tried CPAP therapy over 10 years ago and soon quit due to discomfort issues and paid the price for it. I need treatment to work this time and know I need every advantage to make that happen. Would I prefer not to spend the extra money for it? Absolutely, but it is a small price to pay for the chance for successful treatment this time around. This time I am also using support from this board to keep me motivated for success. Thanks to Pugsy and some others I am optimistic.

I don't have any experience with the dreamstation, but comparing a system1 60 series to a resmed s9.. the s9 was noticeably quieter.I could hear a whine from the respironics blower motor that went up and down as as I breathed... it was fairly quiet, if the air conditioner was going, that would mask it... but when the AC shut off... that varying whine annoyed me.

The Resmed, no whine, presumably because it's motor runs faster. (smaller impeller).

Good morning Pugsy,
Not bad last night but woke up a few times, I believe mainly to turn over. I never noticed this before but I seem to want to lay on my back more than I ever thought I did. I corrected this every time I could and turned to side. I always thought I was strictly a side sleeper. I shut the machine off about 0230 for a few minutes for a bathroom break. I have downloaded expansions of events I thought would be helpful in this post and the overall screen shot from 5-27-18 in the post below.
Thank you,
Mike

Planning on ordering the RESMED "For Her" machine tomorrow. How could that new machine made me have a little better night last night? I'm thinking I would have awakened less because of finer pressure changes. Anything to awaken me less would be a very good thing.
