Re: What is the function of pressure support and why limit the maximum cpap pressure??

Thank you, palerider. With that explanation, I can now go to sleep. I don't know that it makes any difference to me as far as any effect on my therapy, but it was bothering me that I didn't understand what the heck the numbers meant.

Re: What is the function of pressure support and why limit the maximum cpap pressure??

Thank you - the max cpap pressure explanation makes sense. It is essentially irrelevant unless you are topping out at the set pressure. So if my pressure doesn't go above 14, it doesn't matter if the setting is for 20, but it should be at least a few notches above 14. My original settings were ipap ...

What is the function of pressure support and why limit the maximum cpap pressure??

I see therapy settings choice for minimum and maximum pressure support. Mine was originally set for 4-6. What is it the effect of the lower setting and the higher setting? When do they come into play? What does widening the PS range do? While I'm at it - I frequently see suggestions to reduce the hi...

Re: Increased lung capacity?

Higher altitude affects red blood cells and hemoglobin. There is less atmospheric oxygen at higher altitudes. "Altitude sickness", weakness, short of breath. Body needs some time to adapt. For some only a few days, for others a bit longer. Exercise (skiing, hiking, fast walking) can seem more labori...

Re: Buying Airfit P10!!

I have a Medium which I will send to you if you will reimburse the postage after you receive it. It is not in a sealed bag. It was in a white box which I thought the XS came from. There is a slot for Large but no Large in it. I did try the Small but tossed it in my frustration when I had problems wi...

Re: It's Not Always Acid Reflux!

Can you find an ENT that has a particular interest in vocalists? Did you ask the ENT that you saw if cpap could be causing/aggravating a problem with your vocal cords? Are there any groups (like this one) for vocalists? There must be many cpap users among vocalists and they may have suggestions for ...

Re: Generator/Power inverter

Prius owner here. No AC outlet (I wish but also would need a 15 Amp fuse instead of the 10 amp it's currently wired for) but there is a DC outlet (cigarette thing?) that you can get a shielded adapter for but be sure the cpap adapter end works for your model of cpap. Something about polarity of the ...

Re: What do the chart lines mean?

Thanks palerider. I think tomorrow night I will try a pressure increase for a few nights to see if I can change some of my epap time. I'm finding that almost every night I semi-awaken after 3-4 hours of sleep and feel the need to breathe more deeply or something like that. I usually go back to sleep...

Re: Sleep Apnoea and Unrelated Surgery

I strongly urge you to take your cpap with you and insist that they either place it on you or, if there is a contraindication because of the dental surgery, have it bedside with doctor's orders that your O2 level be closely monitored until you are completely alert and conscious. If you can get your ...

Re: What do the chart lines mean?

Thank you, Pugsy. I read many of the posts here whether they pertain to my situation or not. I've learned quite a lot but haven't felt associated with my own charts. I've tried to figure out the meaning based on replies to other charts but it remained mysterious. For example, I thought my leak rate ...

Re: HELP MY INSURANCE WONT COVER MY MASK

Good idea to have your doctor write an order for the mask you want as a medical necessity for your particular circumstances. In addition, follow the previous suggestions about calling your insurance company for first hand information.

Re: Something to block leaks hitting my eyes?

D.H. pointed out something so basic that most posters here take it for granted - Be careful not to block the exhaust ports! I did not know there were exhaust ports. I thought the blowing was from mask leak and I tired to keep the sheet or my forearm covering the "leak" area.

Re: Relationship between snoring and cpap pressures?

Shuvsrain, I did use some app (before downloading SH) and it recorded audibly my snores. Very bad and I don't want to hear anymore! I have two pillows against my back to nudge me back onto my side if I tried to lie on my back. It works, probably because being on my side has been my preferred positio...

Re: Been on CPAP for 7 mo's - still have polyuria

Have you been back to the ENT who did your surgery? Has he/she ordered a post-op CT? The surgery may not have given optimal results or possibly had some complications. Have you used pulse oximeter to check your oxygen levels?
