CPAP hours of use not matching

Post by krr13547 » Sun May 27, 2018 6:07 am

First the vital stars:
CPAP model: Resmed Airsense 10 Auto-set
Mask: Airtouch F20 Full Face Medium Size
Prescribed Pressure setting: 14
Humidity Setting: 3
Mask Seal: Good

Greetings,

I have just recently noticed that the use time recorded on my CPAP is not accurate. Example: last night I was very tired from a long work day so I went to bed early. I do not place my mask on until I am ready to fall asleep. I went to bed at approximately 8:45 pm. I awoke only twice in the night and removed my mask, once at midnight for a bathroom trip and second at 3:18 am for a drink of water. Neither of these breaks in useage was more that 5 minutes before returning to bed and my CPAP. I awoke and removed my CPAP the final time at 4:32 am. Assuming my waking times in the night were five minutes each by my calculations I used my CPAP a total of 7h 41m. Yet when I checked my machine it only logged 6h 43m. One whole hour was not logged. I’m curious if anyone has ever had your CPAP log useage time incorrectly like this or if anyone has a possible explanation why and solution for it. I’m a very detail oriented and conscientious person and I want to get the correct information logged so my doctor can evaluate it properly.

Thanks again,
KR

I don't depend on any doctor to evaluate my CPAP therapy. They don't have the time to dig into the detail like I do. Plus, many of them are not capable or just look that you have been using CPAP four or more hours per night and have an AHI under 5.0. Pffft.

Use Sleepyhead software - there's a tutorial at the top of the index page.

First of all, please put the equipment that you're using in your profile.

There are several reasons that you might not be seeing accurate numbers. The most obvious thing to check are your date and time settings. In general the "day" breaks at noon, local time. It's possible that one night is broken between two different days if this setting is wrong.

My guess is that you used a a Ramp time during Ramp usage may not recorded as the usage time on the screen display as this is not considered treatment. But I have never looked at my data in that level of detail as I am looking at treatment and using the machine during all times of sleep and my target is not compliance but good use of the machine. I also do not use ramp as I wanted to be treated as soon as possible, and feel air starved at non treatment pressures

I evaluate my own treatment and use SleepyHead to perform the evaluation sometimes on a breath by breath basis my doctor does not have the time to perform this analysis so focuses on the summaries and trends over time.

The ramp time would eliminate only about twenty to thirty minutes. I guess if you get up and use the toilet a lot (and turn off the machine) the ramp could engage each time.

Not so fast there sir. Ramp time is adjustable up to 45 minutes. Lets say ramp was set at 20 minutes. 20 minutes x 3 (go to bed, bathroom break & drink) equals 1 hour. The machine will turn itself off with smart start withing 5-10 seconds. That would fit with the missing hour the OP was talking about.
