I've not been force sleeping on my side, but my AHI index is so much lower than it has been. Great news, but I don't really get why. Only thing added is the humidifier. (there is one night missing as I was not home that night).

Going backwards from last night

2.9 24/6/18
1.8
3.5
3.9
6.5
7.6
4.8 Humidifier added
4.5
4.6
4.6
2.9
9.1
5.6 11/6/18

I am used to regular 8+. Could it be that these things just take time to get my system going and used to things?

There is some truth to the "give it time" thing and why that happens I don't know. Maybe it is a combination of little things.
Like maybe you are simply staying off your back more without a super human effort being needed.

Maybe with the addition of the humidifier your nose is simply just a little more comfortable overall so you sleep a little better with less movement from tossing and turning associated with restless sleep.

Maybe some of the slightly higher AHI was sleep/wake/junk events and once sleeping better less chance of false positives elevating the AHI a bit. Every little bit we can do to make the sleep quality better means less chance of arousals for various reasons. Less arousals can mean less SWJ flagged events. Going through the flow rate graph and manually deciding real vs SWJ flagged event is a PITA and for most people with the AHI being relatively low anyway...not really needed for evaluation purposes. If it's already low anyway who cares if a handful of events aren't real kind of thing.

So maybe just the fact that the body/brain is also now more adjusted to the new normal of having the mask and machine working to help us means less times the brain itself just causes an arousal to alert us to the alien stuck on our face. Less arousals means less chance for SWJ false positive flags.

Remember these machines don't have any way to measure if we are asleep or not. They can only measure air flow and awake/semi awake breathing is much more irregular than asleep breathing and the machine sometimes mistakes that awake irregularity for some sort of apnea event. It's not real when that happens but the machine doesn't know that.

Whatever the reason...nice to see and very welcome especially for someone in your situation. Good job.
