OSCAR News

Post by bonjour » Tue Mar 19, 2019 8:55 am

We are going to delay launching OSCAR targeting a Mid April release. We apologize for the delay.

Why the delay? Because we realized it was very important to provide a Migration from SleepyHead to OSCAR.
We want this to occur smoothly and easily for all of our users, not just the tech geeks.

Whether this is renamed "Sleepyhead" or a completely different product (or something between), what are the pros to upgrading and what are the cons?

Oscar is a renamed, updated and community supported version of sleepyhead 1.1.0 Beta 2

No one I know of has seen Sleepyhead Version 2.0

OSCAR is a fork from the closed SleepyHead Project. It is using SleepyHead v1.1.0 as the base for the fork. The initial release will be similar to that version of SleepyHead with some minor changes. Since SleepyHead is shut down it is no longer supported. Over time OSCAR's capabilities will grow. A number of enhancements are being planned to enhance the ability of the user to get assistance. Members of this forum and others are on the team and we will consider enhancements and fixes from here and elsewhere. That means that OSCAR will grow to support the Apnea Community, SleepyHead will not.

I assume that this means that failing to switch over means we will be running an unsupported product which may or may not continue to run.

I know there was a day that mark was mentioning shutting down sleepyhead as he saw something like this happening and he was losing control of sleepyhead. But I was unaware of its complete closure. The Facebook page is running and active, there is a link for the download etc. I do not have any horses in the race, am not a programmer etc and don’t know what happened when you boys were all playing in the sandbox and what upset who etc....

Thanks for your info

I do know that Sleepyhead and this forum and the other one, mostly this one saved my life and I am forever greatful for it, having others show others about it and how to use it. I know for a fact, I’d be dead today if I did not come here, and have sleepyhead as a product to use 3-4 years ago

My version of sleepyhead seems to run just fine and handles my ASV data,
Currently and well I don’t need support for it. but I think there were some issues with some code and mark wanted to go one way, others wanted to go another etc ?

Typically, unsupported software will continue to run, at least when support is first withdrawn. The issue would likely be a update to windows some time in the future, and/or a future replacement machine would not be compatible.

FWIW, Mark has said he is looking for a "torch bearer" for SleepyHead.
He has opened up the Facebook group. Apparently he closed it in error but needed to wait 30 days to be able to reopen it.

FWIW. I will use whatever program the people who are helping me here (pugsy and others) ask me to use. If they prefer oscar I will post oscar charts if they want me to use sleephead I will use that. They are donating their time for free to help me so I will use what they ask.

I understand. We just are not sure, at this point, how "dead" SleepyHead is. The Facebook group was just reopened earlier this week.

I personally don't care what software is used as long as I can see what I need to see and understand it and then decide what ideas I can come up with based on what I see.
Yes, visually the data may be presented a little differently but that doesn't bother me at all. As long as what I need/want to see is there I don't care what software someone uses.
I currently have and able to use...ResScan, Encore Pro, SleepyHead 1.0 and 1.1 and will probably also acquire OSCAR when the time is right. As long as I see what I need to see and understand what I am seeing then I really won't care what software someone uses.
Pros and cons to all of them IMHO.

Choices are good. Friendly competition is good. Even in open-source projects. The more software the merrier. Makers should enjoy making; users should enjoy using. Having options in the sense of the availability of multiple programs should keep everyone who is involved more motivated and focused. I mean, in a perfect world, of course.

Too many broths never spoils the cooks. Or something like that.

As long as all the double agents know how to pass both sides' loyalty-detection polygraphs, everything should work out just fine, I should think.

I am a tech geek (C++ developer with QT experience) with a DreamStation BiPAP. I would be more than happy to be a beta tester who can handle a few rough edges in the release candidate. I have been looking for a place to report the bugs I am affected by for SleepyHead and I would like to try to repro them on OSCAR and write bug reports for the issues.
