Overnight Oximetry Study
Overnight Oximetry Study
Hello again.
I decided to test the pulse oximeter. I imported the data to Oscar and interpreted it for the first time.
I did my homework and read the theory. I know that you should measure time equal to or below 88 or 89%. I know the definitions of the desaturation event and related indicators.
I think the results are really good. The only thing that worries me is the number of events
SpO2 Drop 171 events
Pulse CHange 478 events
Is there any standard for these indicators? Should they be reduced if there are no other symptoms of hypoxia?

Re: Overnight Oximetry Study
how much artifact is shown?

Re: Overnight Oximetry Study
That looks very good to me and normal or better. Sleeping - anything above 88% is pretty good and a lot of the spikes are probably junk as Pugsy suggest. You could also compare the heart rate to it and see if the rate increases as the O2 decreases.

Re: Overnight Oximetry Study
I don't know if OSCAR shows artifacts but the SPO2 software does.
See the sample reports here.
Very many artifacts could account for the high number of "events"....loss of contact artifact.

Re: Overnight Oximetry Study
Fortunately, I also do not see anything wrong there. Only the sheer number of events interested me, because I can not find anywhere is the clinical norm? Does this indicator have any meaning at all?
I have found only a few examples that the increased heart rate reduces saturation. I expected something the opposite ... What does this mean?

Re: Overnight Oximetry Study
I use a pulse oximeter from ResMed (plugged into CPAP) - I do not have the option of analyzing data other than OSCAR, because ResScan does not work on a Mac . The measurement itself should be reliable. The ResMed sensor is very stable and is clinically proven.Pugsy wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2019 10:14 amI don't know if OSCAR shows artifacts but the SPO2 software does.

Re: Overnight Oximetry Study
Events are changes and with artifacts there will be changes. I have never seen a "normal" number of events shown anywhere but then I haven't looked real hard either. Maybe someone with more experience is aware of something.
Usually when people are showing a high number of "events" there is also a high percentage of artifacts which makes a person think a lot of loss of contacts happening.
I don't know what ResScan would show....never ran a pulse ox through it.
If you want me to run it through my ResScan and check it out I can do that for you but I need a full complete copy of your zipped SD card to do it. Can't be bits and pieces...ResScan makes me recreate an exact copy on a SD card before it will import.
Let me know if you want me to do it and we can figure out how to get it done. If not too large it can be emailed as an attachment...but if very big I would need to upload it from somewhere.

thank you- I sent PM
Re: Overnight Oximetry Study
You may have noticed the low o2 was associated to the apnea you were having, increase the min pressure. The pressure used for Fixed cpap, or for most, the 95% pressure The PEEP will resolve a lot of issues.
If you still have the philips dreamstation in the picture. I don't know if ResSan will read it? It will be interesting to see.

Please stop posting nonsense... or just stop posting at all, please.
ResSCAN is a Resmed product, no, it won't read Respironics data.

Don't tell me, fool. Tell pugsy "If you want me to run it through my ResScan" I was pointing out the error in a nice way.

You call me 'fool' but once again, you're posting stupid crap that does nothing to enhance the conversation... you 'point out errors' that aren't errors at all, because you're not competent enough to READ THE THREAD:ajack wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2019 10:05 pmDon't tell me, fool. I think it's pretty clear who the fool is.

Re: Overnight Oximetry Study
I am no fool and I know what I am talking about and I have the ResScan report showing the pulse ox to prove it.
News flash to people who don't bother to fully read what someone writes (that would be ajack)....the machine showing in the profile might not be what they are using right now and are talking about right now for any number of reasons. It pays to actually read what someone posts because it was clearly stated.
For anyone wondering what ResScan shows for pulse ox from whatever pulse ox plugs into the machine...not much and not worth the effort to get it.
All you get is 3 data points...how many minutes below 90% and how many minutes below 80 and 70%. That's it.
No pulse rate, no graphs, no explanation of anything...pretty sad.

Re: Overnight Oximetry Study
It's easy for people to use the wrong name, it is frequently done and why I asked "If you still have the philips dreamstation in the picture."
