Being Lazy - ResMed EPR vs Dreamstation Flex Question

Post by Gator5000e » Thu May 23, 2019 11:48 am

My new sleep provider's office called me after a new sleep study and told me to set my machine (which is a ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet) to regular CPAP status, to set the pressure to 16 and set the Flex to 3. I told the tech who called that ResMed uses EPR instead of Flex. He was unable to tell me what the equivalent of a Flex 3 would be on the Res Med machine. So I am being a bit lazy.

So can someone tell me what the equivalent of a Flex 3 would be on the Res Med?

Thank you.

Flex at 3 gives at most a 2 cm drop during exhale.
EPR at 2 will give a 2 cm drop during exhale.

Respironics doesn't do a per cm exact reduction per setting like ResMed does. The most you can get with the setting of 3 is a 2 cm reduction and you get that only if you breathe forcefully.

I would say try EPR 2 and 3 and just use the one that feels the best to you and be done with it.

I imagine it should be set to Full Time, correct?

And thank you.

Yes, full time for all night long. Otherwise it's only during ramp and If I was using 16 cm I don't think I would want exhale relief limited to ramp time and not everyone uses ramp anyway.

I don't remember but I don't think any of my Respironics machines ever offered "ramp only"...it was either off or on all night.
