travel cpap settings

Post by roadcycler » Fri May 24, 2019 9:12 pm

Just a question about settings. My home cpap is a resmed elite with a constant 6 cm water epr 2 no ramp and humidity of 3. When I purchased the airmini online they recommended just to keep it in auto pap settings which it says an average of 8. We are traveling soon and just wondering if I should set the airmini to the same settings as the elite or let it do its thing.

As a side note my AHI at home is between 1.8 and 7 and are mostly CA events. Tried to increase the pressure to 7 but it increased the CA's.

Thanks

Have you been diagnosed with CPAP-induced central apnea? If not, the first step is to look at the centrals to see if they really are centrals. This video explains how to do this. It's a good idea to watch the entire video, but if you want to jump ahead, the explanation starts at about 3:10.

If indeed, you do have CPAP-induced centrals, I would keep the settings the same as the home machine.

BTW, you need to use that new travel machine at home for a week or longer in order to see how it works for you. You don't need to get caught on a trip getting bad results and wishing you had brought your home machine.

Thanks for the advice. I have set up the airmini the same as the one at home. (the airmini does not allow you to download the info into sleepyhead (Oscar)) So to be on the safe and informed I am keeping the same settings. The CA I think are mostly false as the cardiac meds play havoc with my sleep patterns (unless Pugsy has sent her gremlins to my house)

This is from a couple of days ago, where the AHI was higher than usual

Looking at your zoomed out flow I would suggest you have periodic breathing that can manifest itself as CA's, depending how long the pause is in the middle. Nothing false about the CA's

Can you zoom in to the flow rate section between 23:30 and midnight it looks like there is waxing and waning in you breathing flow

I have an AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her that I use at home and an AirMini that I use when I travel. I do have both machines set the same, min 10 max 16. On the AirSense, my pressure is usually between 12.5 to 13.x (below 14). On the AirMini, it is generally between 14 and 15. I don't know if the slightly higher pressure on the AirMini is due to the smaller diameter hose, or to the hack I made to allow me to use the PilairoQ mask (prior to mid-March) or the Bleep (my last trip and from now on). Either way, other than a bit more noise, I don't really notice a difference.

BTW, I agree with ChicagoGranny. Make sure you have tried it out at home to be sure you're comfortable with the new machine before you travel with it!
