Is Dawn the best mask cleaning detergent. What other detergents do people use?

Post by tyrinryan » Tue Mar 10, 2020 10:03 pm

Everybody seems to use Dawn. So I did /do too to clean my mask and humidifier. Why dawn?-- everybody seems to agree upon Dawn without question? Are there other preferences?

Dawn removes grease (facial oils) very effectively... which is good enough for me.

There are other products, but Dawn is inexpensive and widely available.
Body washes have conditioners--(oils)
Why add oil when you just washed it off?
Squeaky clean silicon has better grip on your face.
Wake up with nasal pillows in your ear, and you will understand.

I use Seventh Generation's Free & Clear dish soap. It has no fragrances or lotions and rinses off clean, which are the characteristics you'd want to be looking for in what you use.

I also use the clear, unscented Dawn. Chunkyfrog turned me on to it years ago. Works great.

When I wash my pillows under water, I use the clear unscented anti-bacterial hand soap in the container on the sink. About once per week.

Otherwise I wipe it down with a baby wipe before using.

When I do a major cleaning in the kitchen sink, all the hoses and headgear, etc. I do use dawn. Good stuff!

anti-bacterial hand soap
You are not doing anything good for yourself, your fellow citizens or the environment.
Antibacterial Soap? You Can Skip It, Use Plain Soap and Water

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), there isn’t enough science to show that over-the-counter (OTC) antibacterial soaps are better at preventing illness than washing with plain soap and water. To date, the benefits of using antibacterial hand soap haven’t been proven. In addition, the wide use of these products over a long time has raised the question of potential negative effects on your health.

Why dawn?
- It works as well as any product on the market for removing the biofilm from CPAP masks.
- It's used for decades by tens of thousands, if not millions, with no adverse effects.
- It's widely available.
- It's cheaper than the foo-foo soaps that lure you with false sales pitches.

If zoologists use it to clean crude oil off of ducks without damaging the ducks' skin or eyes, it's good enough for CPAP masks.

They use it to wash crude oil from oil spills big and small. I have never used for anything except salad dressing on laundry.

Dr Bronners peppermint is what I use. I like the minty scent.

I'll second the Dr. Brommers. I use it to brush my nightguards so it is handy for my XPAP equipment. The current bottle is more than a couple of years old, it lasts a long time.

Any dish soap will work. When I first started, I used generic baby shampoo. Now, I use Ivory dish soap since that is the only kind my wife lets me purchase.
