To jump into the sh*t storm here ...... We saw a documentary on tea ..... they mentioned that after grading and sorting the teas they swept the floor and that's what goes into tea bags. Dust. Yuk.

Good I hate it when the leaves are in it. I even take the Bay Leaves out of the spaghetti. Jim

ABSOLUTELY wrong.
You CAN be an ignorant elitist and think it, but that DOESN'T make it correct.
Did you happen to be looking in a mirror when you wrote that.
Would explain a lot.

Went to their web site, as usual Corp Web sites are a waste of time, Fluff and No Stuff! So i'll just guess, as Orange pekoe is a grading standard not a product name, they got into trouble using it as such (After over 100 Years), so they changed to Dark Tea, now they can use a lesser grade in their products,
ABSOLUTELY wrong. Orange Pekoe ISN'T a grade of tea, and changing the name DOESN'T change what it's made of.

If you can read and think! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tea_leaf_grading  Jim
There's never been any evidence of that from that poster.
I suggest YOU go read that link, IF you can. 2nd paragraph especially.

We'll let someone else say it another way: "The term “orange pekoe” refers to any medium-grade black tea with leaves of a specific size. -- https://www.teaforte.com/teanotes/the-h ... -pekoe-tea

Or this: "If you Google it, there may be various answers. The fact is, it is a grade name for black tea." --https://www.teaguardian.com/quality-var ... nge-pekoe/

Or, hey, maybe Twinings knows something about tea: "“Orange Pekoe” is a term used to grade the size and quality of dried black tea leaves. -- https://www.twiningsusa.com/our-product ... ange-pekoe

Or this: "Orange pekoe is merely a designation of leaf size." -- https://anewleafteaco.wordpress.com/201 ... oe-anyway/

Go away, troll, as USUAL you don't know what you're blabbering about.

I drink quite a bit of INSTANT green tea.
My taste is unrefined enough that it will do quite nicely;
No need to be a snob--I like the taste,
and green things have a certain appeal . . .

Green Tea is very nice, it's *different* from black tea, of course, but good in it's own right.

I used to buy two boxes of tea at once. One box of green tea, and one box of English breakfast tea. I would take half out of each box, then alternate them in the box, one green tea and one breakfast tea. I would drink green tea one day and regular tea the next. I would have a nice cup of tea as soon as I got to work every morning. Now that I'm retired, I don't drink as much tea for some reason.

So, uh, Froggy, this would come from your
having lived a lifetime of 'green privilege' ?

The Woof is a little confused, and probably should go back to sleep.

Uh, some people look down on instant tea.
I like the convenience, and have avoided developing a taste for slow tea.
No privilege, just lazy.

Now, I'm no tea grading, or species expert - all I know is that to make the best tea, you need good black tea, good water and *quiescently* frozen ice. No fruit. No sugar. Note: I'm southern born & raised, except I am a deviant for preferring unsweetened tea.

As for why Liptons may or may not have dropped, renamed or otherwise fiddled with their "Orange Pekoe" label -- don't be too quick to dismiss "Russian Meddling" (tm). From what I hear over the wireless, them boys are a rash on our society these days! Sukiny synov'ya!
