Oh wait oh my god no I was wrong, I looked into the hypopneas for another time (before when I was adjusting it, while I slept I had 19 total hypopneas (it says 26 but 7 are from before sleeping) and one obstructive event at 4 am?? Does this mean the machine is not working properly? Uploaded the hypopnea / obstructive event data below right click where it says image and click open image in a new tab. Also when the imgur link opens click on the image to enlarge it so it can be viewed very clearly. This is pretty scary I'm not sure if the machine is working properly then if I have had all these events haha.coopbosses wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 3:57 amHi Em, I downloaded the OSCAR software as you suggested and loaded the data from the SD card, with the data it is only valid from around 11:20pm to 5:42am since I had the mask on for a couple hours before falling asleep. How does the data look? All the hypopneas by the way are from before falling asleepMiss Emerita wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2020 11:53 amCoopbosses, you are most certainly among supporters here! It is painful to read about the reactions of the people you know. Would it help them to read information from a trusted source, perhaps like this:
https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/d ... leep-apnea
I'm not overweight myself, and I have moderate apnea. It's a condition that may be more prevalent in some demographics than others, but it can be found in any subgroup of people. And it has bad effects, not only day to day, but also on your long-term health.
I think it's really impressive you have taken such an active role in your health care: putting clues together, recording yourself at night, getting that sleep study, and now working on getting your treatment up and running.
There's an additional step you could take, if you have access to a laptop or desktop computer. That would be to download the free Oscar software and import data from your machine's SD card. (You can get a cheap one if you don't have one in there.) Does this sound like a step you might take? Here's a link:
https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/
Tell us how it went last night. We might be able to offer some suggestions for accelerating your adaptation. Meanwhile, hang in there!

Re: 19 Year Old Diagnosed Months Ago And Struggling A LOT
Now I'm super super confused, my AHI shows at 4.44 and apparently under 5 means you don't even have sleep apnea? Now I'm very confused can someone please give their opinion? Thanks.
Re: 19 Year Old Diagnosed Months Ago And Struggling A LOT
Yes, but you must relax first!
For starters, don't try to follow anything that occurred while you were awake because you don't breathe the same way as when asleep, so any 'awake' results won't be valid.
Second, you have apnea, but the (totally arbitrary) number of '5' that doctors came up with to decide if you need Cpap is just that... something they 'came up with' because they had to say something. However, we don't consider that you're doing well until your AHIs are below 2 or 3, with other factors being taken into account. We don't expect you to have '0' every day of course, but closer to 1 or 2 is 'normal' in terms of doing well. It all depends (like everything else).
So, settle down, keep reading and learning and please post Oscar according to instructions re which graphs to do (and which not), don't do the calendar and wait til people here are awake and can comment on things. You'll be fine, but do relax please.

I am still a little confused though, with the cpap I had 19 hypopneas while sleeping if you saw the image, and one obstructive event. Did the cpap correct these as I am unable to tell? Also is 19 hypopneas during a 7 hour sleep normal or is this indicative that I do have sleep apnoea? Thank you! I will also sleep with it again tonight, I feel after last night and the support here it made everything so much easier haha.
Re: 19 Year Old Diagnosed Months Ago And Struggling A LOT
Can you PLEASE post Oscar results (from the latest night's sleep but done before noon as machine then resets to a new day, so won't give valid info). Unless we can see what's what it'll be hard to help you properly. Impatience won't help either, nor will our guessing at what you say (vs what Oscar says). It's to your benefit.

Hi Julie, you mean this info right: https://imgur.com/a/ZfK8bwgJulie wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 5:39 amCan you PLEASE post Oscar results (from the latest night's sleep but done before noon as machine then resets to a new day, so won't give valid info). By the way click right click on the image when you have it and open in a new tab it is much clearer to see.
Let me know thank you for your help

Re: 19 Year Old Diagnosed Months Ago And Struggling A LOT
Regarding the 19 hypopnea events I did have though, where they corrected with the CPAP or are those events that the CPAP was not able to correct?
Re: 19 Year Old Diagnosed Months Ago And Struggling A LOT
I know you want instant answers... so did I when I was 19 , but when we ask for Oscar, there's a reason, so until you show us that info, we don't want to goof up and tell you e.g. the wrong thing... I know you're tired, but get it overwith already and then we can help!

Hey Julie, I linked the imgur link to the OSCAR info and other OSCAR info in posts before under images, can you not see them?Julie wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 6:33 amI know you want instant answers... so did I when I was 19 , but when we ask for Oscar, there's a reason, so until you show us that info, we don't want to goof up and tell you e.g. the wrong thing... Re: 19 Year Old Diagnosed Months Ago And Struggling A LOT
OK, THIS I can answer! Your AHI of 4.44 is your TREATED AHI. You were using your CPAP machine, so your AHI would have been much higher had you not been using your CPAP. Treated apnea does not mean you don't have sleep apnea any more than treating Type 1 diabetes with insulin or Type 2 with metformin means you don't have diabetes. Or high blood pressure with medication. Just means you are controlling it. As someone below noted, doctors arbitrarily picked "under 5" to indicate well controlled or well treated but obviously the lower you can get your AHI, the better. It DOES take time and before too long someone will be on who can help you with the fine tuning to help you consistently get below 1.coopbosses wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 4:22 amNow I'm super super confused, my AHI shows at 4.44 and apparently under 5 means you don't even have sleep apnea? So sorry, but you didn't provide any link in your note! But again, if you read the instructions it says what and how to do what... and now I feel like such a tyrant and that's the last thing I want to be!
Booksfan is correct about the 'Treated" business... your AHI shows how many events occurred while on Cpap... no point in using it otherwise.

If you can read some of the bottom lines on an eye chart, while wearing your glasses, does that mean you don't need glasses anymore?coopbosses wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 4:22 amNow I'm super super confused, my AHI shows at 4.44 and apparently under 5 means you don't even have sleep apnea? Ohhhh, this makes so much more sense okay perfect, thank you! How would I go about trying to get it below 1? Does anyone have any tips? Right, before I thought the AHI wasn't the treated AHI and just how it was normally, makes much more sense now, books explained it with the blood pressure medication analogy and that made it click for me haha. Thank though.Dog Slobber wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 8:54 amIf you can read some of the bottom lines on an eye chart, while wearing your glasses, does that mean you don't need glasses anymore?coopbosses wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 4:22 amNow I'm super super confused, my AHI shows at 4.44 and apparently under 5 means you don't even have sleep apnea? I think maybe the forum might be auto deleting the links or my image isn't posting correctly it may be my fault I tired to get it to work.
