Pros and cons of the hybrid
Pros and cons of the hybrid
What are the upside and downsides of this mask? Please no one respond that used the old head gear and gave up, as apparently the new head gear is a great improvement. Is the biggest problem with this mask the sealing at the nostrils or the sealing around the chin? How does it hold up to pressure at 15?
Comparing my Hybrid, with chin flap removed, to a traditional ff mask the advantages of the Hybrid are:
- less bulky
- reduced feeling of claustrophobia
- can wear eye glasses
- no pressure sore on nose bridge
- virtually no leaks once adjusted properly
- easier to clean
- less "mask face" in the morning
- cooler
What did I miss Hybrid fans?

Pretty convincing list although the clausterphobia is a non factor to me....unless it's in a stuck elevator.LOL With a ff mask it seems the higher the pressure the tighter you have to cinch the mask on...sometimes really tight. Is it the same way with the hybrid. It seems it would be hard to get a seal under the chin and around it where there is bone and no fleshy material to sink the mask into.

LOVE the Hybrid! I was going to cut the under-chin part of this mask off, like rooster, but before I got around to it, I decided I liked it. Haven't been using it very long, and only at a pressure of 8, but it seals great.

I've been using the Hybrid since it hit the market months ago and I have had no complaints at all, not even about the original headgear!
The best part that I love, is no more mouthtape! (Was using a Swift)
Once fitted initially, I simply undo one of the bottom straps, place it over my head, fit nares and chin flap and presto! ITS ALL DONE!
though my leak data registers a little high, I sleep through the night , less than 2.0 AHI and feel great! My auto avereages have been lower with this mask too! (between 7 and Previously, using Swift, 8-10!

I've been using the hybrid since it came out and it's turned out to be the only mask that seems to work for me. I like nasal pillows masks but had serious mouth leak issues.
I use the hybrid with an auto bipap and pressures of EPAP 8 and IPAP 14. I'm not having very much leaking above the normal vent flow rate. I'm thinking of raising my IPAP pressure to 15. If I do have leaks, it is sometimes at the right nasal pillow and sometimes at the lateral edges of the cushion. I use the cushion with the chin flap on and I think that the chin flap stabilizes the mask. Between the new headgear and PadACheeks covering them, the mask stays put.
Good luck!

[quote="Anonymous"]So you are using just the nasal pillows on the mask? That must have taken some serious surgery to reduce it to only pillows.

I think the hybrid does have to be a bit tighter than other masks. Be sure to get padacheeks so you have no strap marks! You can go to http://www.padacheek.com or PM PADACHEEK. Karen will work with you to help you get a good fit. I like the satin Padacheeks, it makes it feel like the headgear isn't even there.

Like the others here, I went to this to get away from taping. I have tried using a cut piece of 3X3 bandage in the chinflap, it stays in, and makes it more comfortable. The medium face and pillows, cut apart, work the best for me. Cutting them apart helped with getting them to line up better with my openings.

I agree with all the points that rooster makes. I've been using the new Adaptive Flow design for the last several weeks. The new headgear has made a big positive difference to the comfort and stability. My AHI numbers have come down to less than 2 on average.
My RT advised me against trimming the chin flap. She feels that the chin flap supports the chin and the lower jaw doesn't get pushed back when the straps are tightened.
Cheers!

I absolutely love the Hybrid but I think it's time the price comes down.
I also wear my flexfit once in a wile which I'm begining to like as well.

With testimonials like that, they are more likely to raise the price.neverbetter wrote:I absolutely love the Hybrid but I think it's time the price comes down.

Re: Pros and cons of the hybrid
The part that goes under your chin does not have to seal all its is there to support your chin and stabilize the mask.track wrote:Is the biggest problem with this mask the sealing at the nostrils or the sealing around the chin? How does it hold up to pressure at 15?
I find that it keeps my mouth shut for me and i wind up breathing strictly through my nose.
As far as pressure goes I was titrated at 19 but with my auto I run the majority of the night at 17. I have tried three other FF-masks before the Hybrid and had to wear the other masks much tighter to get a seal.
I am using the headgear from my HC431, I never bothered to get the new headgear (why mess with whats working?) and of course I have my Tiger striped Pad-a-cheeks which I feel are a nessesity for the Hybrid.
I feel my Hybrid is now to the point of being "broken in" and is working flawlessly for me.Even with the facial hair it doesn't leak.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body totally worn out and screaming,WOO HOO what a ride!
