New user introduction

Post by Curious_Steve » Mon Dec 04, 2023 7:07 pm

Hello.
Thanks for offering this wonderful site. My name is Steve. I'm almost 49, snored most of my life, and got prescribed a machine back in 2008. I used that ResMed s8 until a couple weeks ago when I upgraded to the AirSense 11. Now that I have access to a stream of data, I've been deep diving into all of this to see if I can hack my sleep and get even more rest.

For the last month of so, I've been struggling with dry mouth. Like my cheeks were glued to my teeth. I noticed that my Nasal Pillows were showing some pretty decent leakage rates, but overall when I wasn't leaking it looked like I had pretty good sleep. I'm not comfortable with the idea of mouth taping, so I decided to get the Simplus mask on Black Friday. I've used it a few nights and the dry mouth has pretty much stopped, but now that I don't have the high leakage rates, I find I'm getting more events showing up. I guess that is to be expected since the machine is able to read the data more accurately.

I'm going to contnue digging and learning, but wanted so introduce myself to the group.

How's your sleep quality with using the full face mask? Are you sleeping soundly or wakening often?

I am an active sleeper but I would say I am waking a bit more often with the new mask. Hopefully, once I get used to it, my wakenings will taper off.

The bulk of your AHI is the CA/clear airway/central apneas and those might be related to more awakenings simply from the newness of the new mask. Sometimes when we are awake the machine mistakes awake breathing for some sort of apnea event and we get flagged for something that happened while awake and if we aren't asleep they aren't real and we can't do much about them except try to fix the sleep problem.

Now we can't tell just by looking at this report you shared but it is my first suspect especially since you admit to knowing your sleep isn't great.

Once you start sleeping more soundly with fewer wake ups I think your central index should reduce on its own.
My suggestion is give it a couple of weeks or so and see how it goes and then maybe look again if the numbers haven't come down.

The learning curve is a vertical climb, so might be longer than that. Lol

I think taking a look at that night with SleepHQ might reveal some stuff.
Freeze this moment a little bit longer.
Make each sensation a little bit stronger.

I also think that would be a contradiction.

Typically, I load Oscar and SleepHQ at the same time and compare. Even though I struggle to understand all that I'm seeing.
Right now, I'm trying to focus on elimination of large leaks since i feel like that could be hiding some events.
I slept much better last night, so I do feel like getting used to the mask is helping.

Yeah...it probably would but my thought was give it a couple of weeks and let him get used to the new kind of mask and then go down the "let's zoom in up close" thing only if we really need to.

Well, lemme take a look at the SleepHQ data.

I kinda have an eye for these things.
