Am thinking of looking for a backup machine. But since I am in the Philippines, where a CPAP machine or parts are around 3 to 4 times more expensive then in the US, I am thinking of getting the same machine as I got 3 years ago. I know that the newer machines have more capabilities but I am looking at what I currently have and want to make sure that the accessories and supplies will not go to waste.
Need your thoughts...
Thanks...
Is it wise to get the same machine as a backup
Re: Is it wise to get the same machine as a backup
Masks and tubing (with the exception of heated tubing) are universal, so you shouldn't have problems there.
Besides the obivious (humidifiers, power cords) only worries are replacement filters might be different.

What is the model of the other machine you are considering?
Having the same machine lets you swap humidifiers, tanks, and other parts to fix or diagnose problems. You could even end up with one machine with a broken humidifier and the other one with a broken blower unit, and still have a functional machine.
On the other hand, a different model machine lets you see if there's something better about that model.

Re: Is it wise to get the same machine as a backup
That's basically what I did. I started my therapy in 2005 and over the years acquired a number of machines that were virtually identical to it. They were all manufactured between 2005 and 2007......the "Legacy" models. They all use the same "everything", including software to read the smart cards, filters, humidifier tanks, etc. The last one I acquired was in February of 2012. As time went by, they got considerably cheaper. It was also not all that hard to find ones that had literally not been used. I figured they were "state of the art" when I started using them and they still do what I need......blow air and record nightly data to tell me how my therapy is working.Rogue wrote:Am thinking of looking for a backup machine.
