Apneaboard vs cpaptalk

Post by dweston55 » Mon Jan 15, 2024 4:40 pm

Hi All

I really like cpaptalk. Very informative and easy to use.

However, I do notice a lot of references to Apneaboard as well. So, I went ahead and tried to register on that board as well (the more information the better I guess).

When attempting to register on Apneaboard, I encounter some buttons that appear to send me to another site selling games and such. These "start to activate your account" buttons give the allusion that I am registering for the Apneaboard. It seems like the Apneaboard site is trying desperately to get me to click on an add, rather than make it really easy for me to register. This makes me extremely hesitant to even consider using Apneaboard. I think I figured out a way to finally register, but stopped due to the difficulty and apparent click bate. I just don't know if this is a serious apnea/cpap info source or not.

Have others seen this ? Anybody else concerned ? Is Apneaboard a serious source of cpap info ?

All thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Dave

I have no idea what you are talking about.

Is this where you went to?
https://www.apneaboard.com/forums/

https://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap- ... tup-manual

It is a legitimate website and I have never seen or heard of them doing stuff like you are describing.

Thanks for your quick reply. Yes. That is the link I used. I have attached a screenshot of what I see. Looks like click bait in the center and at the bottom.

Maybe you do not see this ?

Let me go back over there and take a better look to see if I can spot something that shouldn't be there.

I'm not seeing it over there - wondering if you have some kind of malware on your machine causing extra crap to show up in the browser? Do you see anything similar on other sites by any chance?

Get the screenshot linked here it might clear things up a bit

If you can't get a link of your image to show up....send me a PM telling me that fact and I will reply to your PM with my own personal private email addy and then you can send me a regular email with your image attached.
And then I can see it and share it here with the others.

I don't make my own private email address public. It has to be kept private but I will share it with you in this situation.
Just don't share it with anyone else please.

I looked over there too. If I am accessing the apneaboard on my cell phone, it puts an ad in my way that asks me to click start and create an account. It is to a movie music and game app. The only way to get it to go away is to back out and re-enter.
If I try to access from my computer, it doesn't put the ad over my entire screen.

I didn't manage to join either though.

I can't get to this screen because I already have an account.

What did you click on in this screen to get the weird ad?
Was it the first prompt near the top to activate your account and has a download button??? Where it says "Start" or was it the link at the bottom?
Shouldn't need to download anything to activate your account. It's been nearly 15 years since I joined there so I don't remember the steps involved to activate my account.

The box with the green "Start" button and the one at the bottom that says "Activate your account" are ads. You can see the little ad buttons in the upper right of each of those elements. Shady looking ads but ads nonetheless.

I clicked on both of those, the top ad and the bottom Start and Activate buttons. Both took me to a site that sells games and software. The reason I was concerned is that those ads are positioned and written in such a way as to pose as the means by which you register for Apneaboard. It took me a long time to realize that I was being fooled, and that there must be another way to register without being routed to a software and game selling site. Seemed almost like some type of scam (you have to be real careful these days).

OK. I think my question has been answered, and I really appreciate everybody's feedback. Thanks to Pugsy especially. Not sure why I am getting all this clickbait, but I will deal with it. I did find a way to register, so I will do that since it appears that Apneaboard is a real thing, and a reputable source for information.

One follow up question if I might ...............

Is there a big difference between cpaptalk and Apneaboard ? Are they similar in # of users ? Quality of information ? Engagement ?

Is there a reason one would use one over the other ?

Thanks again
Dave
