Re: High respiration rate?
I had some palate problems... felt like I was being slapped from inside my head on exhalation. Very position dependent... supine worst, then on left, then few/no symptoms on right side. Interesting that it affected only one side. Turned out that EPR was exacerbating the problem... the pressure chang...

Re: So my next question is.......
(snip) Now, what does one do to improve mask seal? This has consistently been a problem for me of late. I wear a full face mask and I use mask liners. I cannot tolerate the plastic against my face. I've also discovered that blowing in and out of my mask after I have put it on helps improve mask sea...

Re: Do I need a new sleep study?
Same as you, the Airsense 10 Auto with default 4-20. I don't recall the old stuff, and seem to wind up at 12 point something by the morning. No idea what that means, but I'm enjoying the quiet. You probably would do better to narrow your range... letting the machine hunt is not a good long-term str...

Re: Do I need a new sleep study?
Hey all, just a follow up and a "Thank you!". I got my GP to send CPAP.com a prescription, and got the new machine ordered before 4PM. It was at my house the next day! Sleeping better already, and my wife is getting better sleep too. Hooray! What machine did you get? Did you remember your old...

Re: Sleep Study - Why Only One Night of Data?
(snip) My question is really just an academic curiosity of why a single data point (one night) is enough for the diagnosis, and whether something can be missed. (snip) Sleep apnea severity is usually position-dependent... flat on your back is much worse than side-sleeping. So you could be moderate ...

Re: Sleep Study - Why Only One Night of Data?
(snip) We've all had good nights and bad nights. Is one single night really good enough? And if so, why? (snip) Yes... if you have no issues like O2 desaturation during the night your apnea is probably mild to < mild. Normally during a lab sleep study they tell you to start on your back... the wors...

Re: Continued use of recalled Philips Dreamstation BiPAP AVAPS machine
Sorry to bump the thread *again*... But just another quick question in regards to the new ResMed machine. Do these machines have firmware that should or needs to be updated upon first use or at certain intervals? I noticed in the description of the Lumis 150 VPAP ST that it has wireless connectivit...

Re: 2 cpap machines
You can test your machines' pressures by creating a home-made manometer. You'll need: 1.) A 2 foot (65cm) stick 2.) A 4foot (1m) piece of clear tubing, 10mm OD (3/8") 3.) Some clear tape 4.) A measuring device (tape, ruler etc) 5.) Some water You can combine the stick and the measuring device into a...

Re: BiPAP better than APAP?
I have been using a BiPAP for over a decade. It's been great! I upgraded my recalled device something or other for an Airsense 10 BiPAP, but used an AutoPAP version for about a week and it was great. I didn't notice when I bought the used Airsense10 that it was only a BiPAP. Still, it worked great....

Re: Dry mouth, throat, nasal passages
With CG on that one... I had mouth leaking come with advancing age... less muscle tone during deep/REM sleep. Moved to a full-face mask (currently Vitera, love it) and mouth tape. Examine your leak graphs, that will tell the tale.

Re: A question to those who have successfully mouthtaped
Why am I waking up with a dried out mouth, sticky with saliva? I recently started with cover roll stretch tape (CRST). I've shaved beforehand and used a wide swath across the whole mouth, checking to make sure I can't blow any air out the corners. Upon waking, I've also checked to make sure I could...

My recommendations to a new sufferer
This happened in Nick's group 'CPAP Reviews' on FB... I ended up making a screed... let's post it here and y'all tear it up please. Here's the OP: I have been following for a few weeks. Diagnosed end of January. I just got the referral for the DME on Friday. Still don’t have any equipment. Would lov...

Re: How does CPAP prevent apnea?
There is a lot of common information on Google. They all say: "Continuous airflow keeps the airways open and prevents any pauses in breathing." The device cannot give me air unless I breathe. What good is it if it constantly gives air? So what triggers me to breathe again while wearing a mask? It's...

Re: Choosing a new auto cpap device
I'm a big fan of the Resmed Airsense 10, a work-horse machine that is perhaps the most popular machine out there. Since the pandemic it's been available without a modem for a *lot* cheaper, I bought mine brand new last November for <400USD. See if the Airsense 10 Card-to-Cloud (missing modem) is ava...

Re: Elderly back sleeping mom, new ASV
Sorry to hear your problems... sleeping with head raised appears to be the best solution... she's not a side-sleeper at all. Recliner? Hospital-type bed with raised head? Angle cushion? Here's another thought... is it her tongue? The iNAP is a new device that pulls a suction in the mouth to keep the...
