Traveling Internationally (China) Resmed10-AS

Post by Papstruggler » Fri Mar 01, 2024 8:58 am

Hi all,

I'm curious if anyone here has experience traveling to Asia, more specifically China with their CPAP machine. I have a few questions that I hope some folks can advise me on.

1) I see on my power brick for my cpap (Input 100-240v 50-60hz AC Output: 24v) China runs on 220 Volt 50 Hz AC so I think I'm okay there to use the standard Resmed 90w AC power adapter that came with my machine. Does that sound correct? I'll probably call Resmed about this as well.

2) This will be my first time traveling internationally with CPAP. I'll be flying a NA airline but I'm curious if there could be any additional things to consider when traveling with CPAP internationally. I've read up on a few things like getting through TSA but I'm curious if anyone here can provide any additional insight.

3) Any other good to knows? I've watched read plenty of videos about "traveling with your cpap" but I'm really trying to cover everything here to make the experience as good as possible.

Thanks!

Hi,

I haven't gone international with the machine but I can answer some of your questions -

1. Your power brick is a switching power supply. All you need to do is be able to plug it in through an adapter and it will function normally. No special precautions. Assuming your brick is like mine it takes a standard power cord for a computer obtained locally or you can just use an adapter for the prongs.

2. Notify the airlines you are traveling with it, and if you need to sleep on the plane make sure you also have the 12/24v travel adapter that has a 12v plug on the end. Most international planes have 120v sockets at each seat, but not all. And if yours doesn't work you may need to change seats for one where it does. Never let it out of your possession and don't put it in checked baggage. TSA will xray it and may open it if you are tagged for extra screening but no real issue.

3 . print out and take with you the airline policy about cpap - anywhere in north america the cpap is NOT counted against your carry on baggage count because it is medical equipment. Mine came with a plastic tag that says medical equipment. Sometimes gate agents don't know what the policy is and will tell you it counts as your carry on. Sometimes you can get in on the early boarding if you are on a full flight and need to be able to put it someplace.

4. Take several clear plastic bags and put it inside one before boarding the plane. That way you can put it under the seat in front of you and not get plane floor yuck all over it.

5. you can use any water in it that you can drink - assuming you can't get distilled or bottled or trustworthy water.

#2 - this is why I have a Freedom V2 lithium battery that automatically supplies 24v, and fits in the bag. Nothing to plug in should I need the machine and unable to plug in. And delays - with a decent battery you can sleep wherever you need to if you get stranded for a while.

#4 - Grab a few extra gallon zip lock bags for your mask; that way the TSA agent who just handled someone's shoes isn't directly handling your mask should they insist on opening the bag.

Thanks for all the info robbob2112. On #2. Does that apply to the outlets like in the image I attached? I assumed I could just plug in the power brick I got with the CPAP. I don't know If I understand completely what you mean. If I have the 120v socket at my seat do I still need the 12/24v travel adapter? Are you referring to the socket type like a Type A socket

Thanks for the input! I'm looking into all these things

The type outlet is dependant on the plane. All airlines fly international with planes that have regular outlets. But sometimes the regular plane is broke and the sub one without
