ResMed Lumis 150 VPAP ST Questions

Post by Zaiforce » Tue Mar 19, 2024 5:42 pm

Hi there,

Apologies for creating yet another thread but I just had a couple of questions regarding the ResMed Lumis 150 VPAP ST if possible.
Quick back story for those that don't know:
My mother has recently starting using the ResMed Lumis 150 VPAP ST (1 week ago) after moving from a Philips Dreamstation BIPAP AVAPS due to the recall issue.
Her pressure settings were just recently changed to 20 IPAP / 10 EPAP.
Question 1 :
I have noticed that when I turn the machine on and the mask is off her face, I see the pressures on the screen go up and down between 10 and 20 but the air flow pressure coming out of the mask doesn't seem to go up and down at all, it just remains constant, and the machine doesn't sound like it's going up and down in pressure either.

I tried cupping my hand over the mask to try and form a seal but still didn't notice any actual pressure changes either, despite the display screen showing the pressure going up and down between 10 and 20.

Is this normal? I only ask because with the previous Philips machine you could clearly hear and feel the air flow pressure increasing and decreasing even with the mask off.

Perhaps the ResMed machine doesn't actually do that until the mask is on her face and it detects her breathing? Just curious that is all, and I am unsure why the display would show the pressure going up and down when it only seems to be remaining constant.

When she goes to bed tonight and has the mask on I will ask her if she notices it changing pressure when breathing in.

Question 2:
We have been turning the machine off of a morning with a single power button press (not holding it down) and have noticed that for quite a while after turning the machine off (up to an hour or so) there is a slight trickle of air flow still coming from the mask, which eventually stops after quite some time.

From a quick Google search I believe this is to allow the humidifier to cool down, can anybody confirm this?

If we press and hold the power button to turn the machine off then the air flow stops completely.

Thank you all for any help :)

Cheers.

Consider it confirmed. That is indeed what the cool down period does and it lasts about 30 minutes and then the machine will totally shut off.

Sorry but I don't know enough about the ST mode to answer your other question.

Not only does it help the water in humidifier cool down, it also dries residual humidity in the humidifier, hose and mask. I alway let my machine to that before I turn it off completely.
If we press and hold the power button to turn the machine off then the air flow stops completely.
I set up a timer to remind my to: take out the humidifier, disconnect the hose and turn off the machine completely. 30 minutes is enough for my Airsense Auto 10.
Check you machine after 40 minutes -- does it really still have that gentle blow going on?

I don't know the answer to your first question.
