Inclined bed: a solution for apnea's and snoring...?
Inclined bed: a solution for apnea's and snoring...?
One of my friends, who according to his wife, suffered from apnea's and snoring, equipped himself with a reclining bed.
According to him, the result was very convincing, in reducing both apnea's and snoring.
I would be happy to know if any members of the forum have any experience on the subject, before I start tilting my bed.
Thank you

i've done it and had some moderate success with it. it certainly didn't take me to zero or anything. but anything to help me breathe properly is a benefit in my book.Albatros wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 4:13 amOne of my friends, who according to his wife, suffered from apnea's and snoring, equipped himself with a reclining bed.

dunno about snoring. if your friend is using cpap and still snoring, then his settings aren't right.

Everyone should just sleep on an incline bed and let the sleep docs and equipment manufacturers close down the industry.

Re: Inclined bed: a solution for apnea's and snoring...?
I have used an adjustable (inclined) bed for several years because of severe arthritis of the spine. When I did my sleep study, I used their hospital bed so I could raise my head when I slept. My AHI was 49 when sleeping with my head raised. I don't think the inclined bed helped me very much with my sleep apnea.

Re: Inclined bed: a solution for apnea's and snoring...?
I sleep on a big stack of pillows and my home sleep study STILL had my AHI at 82. So no.
I have fallen asleep sitting straight up (in the car, in a plane, when really tired in other places where sleep is not appropriate) and I have apnea almost immediately.
Unless a sleep test confirms that apnea is under control on an inclined bed, I wouldn't be "inclined" to believe it.

My back hurts just thinking about it.
I need to lie on my side, and change position.

Thank you for your replies.
As I sleep on my side, I will not change any thing.

Re: Inclined bed: a solution for apnea's and snoring...?
A big stack of pillows is quite different from an inclined bed. It likely tilts your head forward, dropping your chin down to your chest. This places additional stress on your airway, often leading to repeated apneas and hypopneas.Janknitz wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2024 2:27 pmI sleep on a big stack of pillows and my home sleep study STILL had my AHI at 82.
