ResMed Filter Question

Hi all ,

My mother is now using a ResMed Lumis 150 VPAP ST machine and I am looking to buy a new filter for it.

I have noticed some white fibres appearing in the humidifier tub after use and they are too big to go through the filter so i think they might be pieces of the filter breaking off, there are also fibres from the filter sticking through the grill of the filter doorway, so I want to replace the filter to be safe.

My local pharmacy stocks ResMed filters and ResMed hypoallergenic filters, but the lady there couldn't tell me which machines they are compatible with.

On the ResMed website it lists filters that state they are "Filters for ResMed S9 or AirSense 10 CPAP machines" and it states "These CPAP air filters can be used with both ResMed S9 series devices and AirSense 10 AutosSet CPAP machines".

They also sell hypoallergenic CPAP filters "for use with any ResMed S9 or AirSense 10 devices".

Aside from those 2 options, the only other filters I see for sale are the "Airsense 11 Filter" and the "ResMed AirMini Filter".

I don't see the ResMed Lumis 150 VPAP ST machine listed on any of the filters, is it able to use the filters meant for the ResMed S9 and Airsense 10 CPAP machines?

Yes. If the Lumas has the body style of the S9 models or the AirSense 10 models then those filters will work

I haven't seen an AirSense 11 model to evaluate those filters so can't comment on those filters.

I'm thinking you have the filter in backwards. When you get new filters, note the two sides are different and put this one in opposite of what you have now.

Yes. If the Lumas has the body style of the S9 models or the AirSense 10 models then those filters will work

If you still have the old filter, measure it, or trace around it on a piece of paper.
Then you can compare filters to see what will fit.
There is always the possibility the bozos at the DME don't even know what they have.
Would not be the first time.

I have seen the filters with the different sides you refer to on different videos I've seen, but the one that came with my mum's machine appears the same on both sides.

I replaced it yesterday with a new filter I purchased from my local pharmacy (which looks very similar also, aside from a slight difference around the edges, but is also made by ResMed).

When I opened the filter doorway to take the old filter out I could see why I have been finding filter fibres in her mask and in the humidifier tub of the machine, there were loose little fibres everywhere...

I took a photo which you can see at the bottom of this post with arrows pointing to the loose fibres... I had removed a lot of them before I thought to take the photo though, there was easily 5 times this many before I cleaned some off and took the photo.

I have also included a photo below of the old filter and how loose the fibres are, flicking the filter with my finger sent more fibres flying off everywhere.

I thought the filter may have been defective, but when I opened the new filter I had just purchased from the pharmacy it looks pretty much the same... It is also a ResMed manufactured filter, so I am guessing this is just how they are meant to be? Seems odd to me that the fibres come off them so easily and can be breathed in, the whole purpose of the filter is to prevent debris going into the machine isn't it?

Is this normal?

Above all, resist the urge to plug it into any so-called "cleaning machine".
Ozone causes DAMAGE, and will void the warranty.

I wonder if you are getting 2nd quality filters Really?
