Understanding readings

Post by klingonwyotech » Fri Apr 26, 2024 2:32 pm

Hello everyone:
My name is Marty I am 67 years old, 2 heart attacks, the last one was a 5 way bypass. No other diseases.
5' 7" 149lbs.
and I also have just been diagnosed with sleep apnea.
My starting sleep study readings were 27.4 events per hour. Got the ResMed air sense 10 auto set.
immediately my AHI shot up to 41 per hour. my numbers now read;
AHI= 30.8
total AI= 30.1
central AI= 11.1
I am reading that the CPAP does not treat sleep apnea it just allows the patient more O2 to sleep better.
I sleep like crap and the machine wakes me up too.
I wonder if the implant would be a better choice as long as Medicare pays for it lol
What do the "total AI and central AI" numbers mean???
I know the AHI is the total Apneas per hour which means last night I slept for 7hrs for a total Apneas were (math time) 7x30.8=215 Apneas.
Suggestions please.
Thanks

Burn that damn book. The author is a most notable coward, an infinite and endless liar, an hourly promise breaker, the owner of not one good quality.

Stick around. Members will be along to help you achieve what you deserve.

Either you're reading the wrong stuff, or you're misunderstanding what your read.

CPAP does not cure sleep apnea, just like glasses don't cure short sightedness.

Do read Sticky--Newbies-PLEASE-READ-BEFORE-POSTING.html and follow the instructions.

Sorry to hear... we can guess, but seeing some graphs will help us help you.

Hoping your machine has an SD card... if not, get one and install it, the cheapest smallest full-size card will work great (old camera 2gig/4gig works fine). SleepHQ is a free website where you can upload your data and share links to it... we get to zoom in and see everything in hi-res. Oscar is a free open-source program that basically does the same thing except you can only share screen-shots, not quite as useful for us here. I actually use both.... here's last night:

Note the presence of an O2 graph... I wear an O2Ring all night, then download that data off the ring and upload it to Oscar and SleepHQ. Don't get disheartened, that's the best night I've ever had... here's a crappier one:

These graphs are great because they let us see your machine settings as well as what your machine is doing with them. Once we see them we can start advising. BTW, if you put your machine and mask in your signature we won't have to bother you for them.
