effective block for spouse's snoring?
effective block for spouse's snoring?
Anyone have that perfect or near perfect blocker for snoring? My wife and I usually sleep separately as she does not like getting cool moist drafts from my cpap machine on her neck and I can't stand her snoring... Quiet 99% of time but oh boy, that 1% will get ya... Going on vacation and do not have the option of separate rooms... Any suggestions? Help please!!!

Schedule her for a sleep test!
Barring that, foam earplugs.
But seriously, schedule her for a sleep test. Drive her there. Take her out to a nice breakfast afterward. But make sure she gets one.

Re: effective block for spouse's snoring?
great point! She knows the benefits of cpap therapy. Digs in her heels and insists she does NOT have SA. I did try a wager, she would win a nice, expensive prize if she was tested and was negative for SA but no go. Two of her siblings have it and of course so do I. No one would tease her if she had it. So I need a hearing band-aid to make it through a 9 night vacation...

Brown Noise (smoother than white noise). Foam earplugs.
As for the sleep test, have her put an sp02 device on her wrist or something, and monitor her blood oxygen levels. That’s what I did before my sleep test. It’s very telling. I had my wife do it and hers was fine. I also insisted she go but I’ve listened to her and she doesn’t stop breathing. She saw a ENT doctor and they said she has a slight deviated septum in her one nostril and I suspect the same for your wife.
I’m still fighting the battle but a deviated septum isn’t something a cpap can fix and surgery is not worth it. Good luck lmk if you find out any new discoveries.

Re: effective block for spouse's snoring?
Interesting JLSmithSeven, I like the idea of trying the spO2 device and I think I family doctor's office will lend one out overnight! I'll check it out. I've only heard her gasp for air couple times. But then, I sleep in a different room with the door closed... I'll follow through on your comment! Interestingly, my bride's snoring is very similar to her Dad's snores, perhaps a genetic thing such as deviated septum. With a shot to have her go to an ENT.
Granny, my wife sleeps on her back all the time... Kinda creepy, she lays on back, hands on her chest, and head perfectly in line like she is in a coffin... I have convinced her to try sleeping on her side, we'll see how that goes. I'm a side sleeper (rotate side to side) and find it very frustrating to only be able to sleep on one side with her. Plus the snoring.

I’m glad you are trying to figure things out! The ENT will be able to diagnose anything going on with those areas and is much cheaper than getting a sleep study done! It’s a good first start I believe. But yes back is also the worst position for snoring I think. Good luck and I’m interested in how it pans out.

Record her sleep noise.
It is especially good if you can record pauses, snorts, etc.
She probably has no idea that she struggles to breathe while sleeping.
Threaten to buy life insurance for her if she insists on leaving this planet before you.
