AHI Pre CPAP of 105. O2 desats down to 80%. With my PB 420E, last few months have averaged AHI of 1.8. WOOHOO!

Unfortunately, it broke last week so is being sent back for replacement. I've slept without it for 3 nights now and don't feel really terrible, but can see a steady downswing in energy and mood. Hopefully, the replacement will be here Wednesday.

Thanks for the response bonnie!

I am anxious to get my software and reader because I have my ramp time set to 30 minutes, and given my high AHI during the sleep study, I think my actual AHI when the machine is at full pressure might be really low, but the average is being inflated by that 30 minute ramp period.

I fall asleep extremely fast, so I am thinking about lowering the ramp to 15 minutes and see how that affects my average AHI.

Cut and Pasted from my study.

RESULTS OF TESTING: This is a complete polysomnogram with standard montage and sleep staging by EEG. The total time in bed was 7.6 hours and the total sleep time was 6.5 hours for a normal sleep efficiency of 85%. Sleep latency is normal at 15 minutes. Sleep stage statistics show a mild increase in stage I sleep to 17% of sleep time. Virtually no delta sleep occurred. REM sleep is also reduced to 9.3% of sleep time. REM latency is normal at 65.5 minutes. There were 723 arousals and 27 awakenings. All but two of these events were due to respiratory events. There were 436 obstructive apneas and 316 hypopneas. The apnea index is 67.5 and the apnea/hypopnea index is 116.4. The patient slept about half the night on his back and half the night on his side, and the respiratory disturbance was essentially the same in both positions. The awake oxygen saturation was 96%. The mean saturation during sleep was only 85%. During much of the night, the oxygen saturation fluctuated between about 80% and the low 90%s. During REM stage sleep, more severe desaturations occurred to as low as 57%. Snoring ranged from light to loud. There were no periodic leg movements of sleep. The electrocardiogram showed a sinus rhythm with average heart rat: of 70. The patient rated his lab sleep as better than at home because he was able to make more adjustments in the bed position.

IMPRESSION: This study demonstrates a severe. obstructive sleep apnea disorder. The apnea index is 67.5, the apnea/hypopnea index is 116.4, and desaturations occur to 57%. The mean saturation during the night is only 85%. This would commonly lead to problems of right heart failure and edema.

RECOMMENDATIONS: Active treatment with nasal CPAP would ordinarily be appropriate for a patient with this severity of sleep apnea. in-lab CPAP titration would be appropriate to assure that adequate control of sleep apnea is achieved and that oxygen saturation is satisfactory with treatment.

This study was done in 11-11-02, just started treating it around about a month before the first of this year (2007).

Doing ALOT better now that I have an Apap and getting help from the people here

AHI was 128.0

Average Duration was 21.7 seconds.
Max Duration was 54.1 seconds.
SaO2 Awake Average: 93%
Lowest SaO2%: 0%
Average SaO2% Desaturation: 12%

Stage REM 5.3%
Stage1 Sleep 31%
Stage2 Sleep 63.4%
Stage3 Sleep 0%
Stage4 Sleep 0%

Heart rate was fine both awake and asleep.
No Periodic Leg Movements,
Only one Central Apnea event,
Apnea was in 107.9
Hypoapnea was the remainder.. (what is hypoapnea)

Pressure is set to 11 CPAP, AHI is down to 7 or so... only have the machine for a couple months.

I don't know what most of this means yet.. but am learning quickly..
