Hannah's titration went well

Post by HeatherN » Tue Apr 10, 2007 12:14 pm

Hannah had her titration last night and it went so well.(thanks to all that asked about her!) I was nervous how the whole thing would go over ,but she did did better than expected. She was able to put the mask on and fall asleep with it on. She slept for three hours with no thrashing around and no snoring. She did wake up and panicked a bit but after taking the mask off and calming down she put it back on and went back to sleep. She was a little agitated the second half of the night but overall tolerated the whole thing very well. The tech said that many people have the same panic reaction at first but in time she should be able to get used to the whole thing.I am very encouraged that we will finally get the help she needs. Now the hard part is waiting to go see the sleep Dr at the END of May. GRRR.But we are on our way!!! Yipee!!!

So glad to hear (and see!) that the study went well! Hannah's a doll, and I'm sure it was more stressful for you than it was for her. Thanks for posting her smiling face.

While you're waiting for your appointment with your sleep doctor, why not ask the sleep lab for a copy of all of the data collected during the study. They might not give it to you, but then again they might. If you have a chance to study it, you can ask the doctor more specific questions.

Also, contact the sleep doctor's office to find out exactly how you will receive your machine for Hannah. If they will be giving you one, tell them that you want some input into what machine you get (data recording!). You'll want the right machine the first time to avoid any problems later. Ask about mask selection, also, and whether she'll be able to try on a couple of different ones.

Good luck, and congratulations on the successful study!
Cathy

Tell her we're all proud of her and how brave she was.

Bug the doctor's office every day after a week. Tell them you would like to be on standby in case there is a cancellation.

And, have the nurse or whomever check to see how "severe" her apnea is. If it's really bad, insist on an earlier appointment.

Be a Mother Bear. ..........

Hannah looks like a little angel! She could represent a picture of peaceful, restful sleep on cpap if her picture were used whenever OSA and treatment are mentioned on tv. It would be a sharp contrast to the cpap usage they usually show.

Ditto. Also tell her we're all routing for her to have no, or few, problems when she begins the therapy.

Little Hannah is so blessed to have been diagnosed now and avoid or prevent the myriad of health problems OSA might cause in the future. She is also blessed to have a loving, caring mom!

Regards,

Alisha
