How do you clean a heated hose?

Post by NOLONGERTIRED » Tue Apr 10, 2007 7:26 pm

I'm just loving my new F&P HC-604 cpap! It may not have all the bells and whistles of the m series or vantage, but it's ridiculously quiet; that alone makes it a standout for me. I'm refilling twice as much and have had absolutely no issues with dryness since I've started using it! My one concern is, will I damage the hose by cleaning it with a good water rinse. I usually spray inside and outside both ends and then scud as best as I can with a soft bottle brush and rinse thoroughly.... am I asking for trouble? I welcome input from any other heated hose users. Thanks folks!

Here is a method which I think I first heard from Mikemoran at least a year ago: Fill the hose partially (and carefully) with whatever liquid you clean your hose with, then connect both ends together with a regular hose connector (from cpap.com or wherever). Now that it is completely water tight you are free to slosh it around until it's clean (on the inside), taking care not to uncork the connector prematurely. Then rinse (same way) and hang it on the towel rack for a few hours to drip dry. TA TA !

I actually doubt there is much to be damaged by getting the heated hose wet on the outside, save possibly the connector plug. (my opinion)

This is the answer I got from the company that makes the Aussie hose:

CLEANING : clean ONLY the interior of the SleepZone heated CPAP tube (DO NOT immerse the tube) the simplest method is to use 2 small plastic bags or cling film secured with rubber bands … after adding a small amount of water or highly diluted disinfectant eg (mouthwash) secure the ends with the plastic bags and “slosh” the liquid around inside the tube . Rinse in the same manner then hang to drain and dry. Sponge clean the outside insulating cover as required. Cleaning CPAP tubing is a personal Hygiene matter. Some users rarely clean their tubing.

And there are some of us who never clean or rinse out the hose. It's just air going through it.

I second Linda's comment.

That was my thought. And, with it's own heating system, it would literally sterilize itself.
