new to board ! Thanks for being here

Post by sleeptodream » Sun Apr 15, 2007 4:02 pm

I took a very long time to get serious about my severe sleep disorders. After following this board and getting worse with an outdated cpap I use on and off for five years I bought a new apap (rem star m cflex w/ encore pro ) Cant do another sleep study so auto seemed way to go. First night went o.k..Exceptions; vib snore and Hypopnea off the charts at 5,6and 7. Calibrations 4 to 20 to start, to narrow down I assume. Odd at 8 and on all zeros. Did i miss something in set up? should I reset to8-18(nothing above 19) or wait for a few days of history? any opinions are most welcome. Those along with a proffesional source is how I intend to procede!

Congratulations on reading the board and getting good equipment. If you haven't already, start with reading the light bulb/our collective wisdom on pressure settings, cpaptalk-articles/CPAP-pressure-settings.html

There are good advisors on the board; you'll probably hear from them.

When I received my auto I was less than 1 month in with a CPAP. The auto came with a prescribed pressure range of 6 to 20. When my upper range rarely even hit 14, I first set the upper range to 14. After further looking at the data over the next month, I raised the lower limit to 6.4. I tend to move slowly with adjustments, and am accumulating over a month's data before I make my next switch. (AI 0.1 and HI 2.4 over the last month, according to the software; these reported numbers may be a little lower than actual.)

I'd say it's nearly a given that you should raise your lower pressure; you could try 7, 7.5, or 8. If your machine is not starting out at 4, it will have an easier time raising the pressure to that needed for treatment.

Lowering your upper limit to 18 is likely a good move, too. In any case, look at your data over the next bit of time, as no two nights' sleep are the same. If you rarely hit the high pressure, further lowering would be in order. Similarly, if you find lots of events at the lowest pressure, raising it some more is likely to help.
