Re: rebound insomnia
You might also ask your doctor about Remeron aka. Mirtazapine (generic). It's used effectively as a sleep aid, no withdrawal issues, lower doses work better than higher doses. Most common side effect is craving carbs. As my doc says, "it's great for underweight little old ladies with anxiety." Low c...

Generic Quattro headgear vs. OEM?
I need to order replacement headgear for my FF Quattro and I see there is a generic available from cpap.com and I was wondering what kind of experience folks have had with it. My biggest issue seems to be that the straps at the forehead connection stretch/thin out and don't like to stay hooked as we...

Re: Alpha Intrusions? Rapid EMS too much EMG? What?
EMG: electromyogram Not sure on the EMS EM's are eye movements. Alpha intrusions are basically waking events They can be caused by pain & discomforts, anxiety & "busy brain" i.e. stuff you can't stop thinking about. Normally your sleep graph printout should look like stair steps going down as you fa...

Re: Cleaning Face mask
I'll probably catch heat for this but I've been doing it for well over a year daily on the same Quattro mask & seal without any problems, rashes, discoloration, hardening etc. I have the std. foamy antibacterial soap soap dispenser, think we use Target brand. I pull the seal & forehead piece. Squirt...

Re: Quattro full face
If you search "Quattro" here you'll get tons of tips. In a nut shell, too tight is bad. If the mask is too low on your face, you get a nose sore. The bottom of the seal should just be under your bottom lip, not on your chin. Tighten the top straps just until the bridge stays put. Too tight and you'l...

Junaid - can't remember now, but have you seen an endocrinologist? Is that who told you about high prolactin levels? I have, yes! She found that I have a growth on my pituatry which is elevating my prolactin levels Elevated prolactin and FSH which are indicators of pituitary tumor are generally res...

Re: Good white noise machine?
The Marpac unit is great. Wife used to use a fan, problem with the fan is it keeps dust stirred up, makes the blinds move & bang and it's too bulky to travel with. The Marpac Sleepmate is compact, has a long cord, has a good protective cushion on the bottom, no dust, doesn't create any other noises,...

Re: Respironics SmartCard Reader Not Detected
I'm running one of the older Mako readers and I have to go into the Windows System menu and remove the smart card reader from the hardware listing, then plug it back in and it reinstalls the driver. Something happened after a Windows update and it's been that way ever since.

One year ago today....
I started CPAP therapy. I can't say it's been the answer to my problems but it's certainly solved a few of my wife's complaints and I'm certainly no worse for it. It has solved my RERAS and helped with the UARS which seems to be my biggest problem. So for those newbies just hosing up, stick with it....

Re: BCBS/FL cpaper
@ Rustyolddude -- thanks. My BCBS/FL is Health Options HMO and they only use EMP who then designates a local DME to supply patient. Crazy!! I did find out today that my plan is 100% for machine, mask, hose, filter.....with new mask/filter every 3 months 100% covered. The machine is a 13 month renta...

Re: BCBS/FL cpaper
I've got BCBS Florida and I dealt directly with American Home Patient, no problems other than I'd probably been better to pay out of pocket as the deductible over 10 months was basically the cost of the machine had I bought it direct from CPAP.Com

Re: Questions for any UARS members using CPAP
My diagnosis was UARS. I started straight CPAP at 10in/H2O and went to 11in/H2O with Cflex set to 3. I use a Quattro FFM. I really had no issues adjusting to it, took a little while to get the humidity figured out. In the summer it's set to 1 and in the winter 2-3. While I can't say it made a signif...

Before you go any further with therapy or medication, get your testosterone level checked. It's a quick & easy blood test which should be done before going further. Blood should be drawn in the morning as this is the when you T level is at it's peak. A web search will give you the levels for your ag...
