Re: Do I need higher pressure if my AHI is still high?

My pressure range is now 14.5 to 18.5. My AHI has dropped but is still averaging 7 to 8 and sometimes it still goes beyond 10. I hesitate to adjust my pressures any higher. I can't track if I'm having Central Apnea. The software report is only showing hypopnea events. Those are quite frequent. I do ...

Re: Do I need higher pressure if my AHI is still high?

snoozebabe, I didn't realize until I looked at your chart that you're not using your CPAP 100% of the time each and every night. You might be right in changing your pressure, but why don't you perfect your compliance. Use the machine all night, every night, and naps. Oh, but I do. Ever since I got ...

Re: Do I need higher pressure if my AHI is still high?

This was mentioned briefly by another poster, but it's worth reiterating-- an AHI above 10 is too high. Something is not working for your setup, and you should definitely consult with your doctor about that. One piece of information I haven't seen from you is what kind of residual events you are ha...

Re: Do I need higher pressure if my AHI is still high?

If the diagnosis is obstructive sleep apnea, I am not aware of any need for caution when it comes to raising the minimum up to within a cm or two of what you need to prevent obstructive apneas, in harmony with everything Pugsy, BlackSpinner, Brenda, and others have said. The only reason to leave th...

Re: Do I need higher pressure if my AHI is still high?

Well look at your last night, your 95% is stuck right at your upper limit of 14. Your graphs will show you what was going on minute by minute. I haven't got the software - yet. Can only rely on the SmartCode report which only shows bar graphs of the numbers in the table. Hopefully I can lay my hand...

Re: Do I need higher pressure if my AHI is still high?

Thanks for all your advice, comments and warning. All very enlightening. Well, I wouldn't have suspected that my therapy wasn't working until I chanced upon a discussion of AHI numbers in this forum and discovered that mine is still above the recommended range. Otherwise, the CPAP is the best thing ...

Re: Do I need higher pressure if my AHI is still high?

Check this: THE APNEA-HYPOPNEA INDEX: USEFUL OR USELESS? “There is not much association between the AHI and anything else—sleepiness, muscle dysfunction,” or other markers for SDB, claimed Dr. Sullivan, who heads the Sleep Disorders Unit at the University of Sydney in Australia. The management of S...

Re: Do I need higher pressure if my AHI is still high?

Do you have the software so you can see your charts? What is the machines pressure set to? If you use it in auto mode and the low pressure is too low, you will have events until the pressure gets up to where it will stent the airway open. You may just need to raise the lower setting. If you don't h...

Do I need higher pressure if my AHI is still high?

I have been using my CPAP for 5 months now and the AHI is averaging 10.5 / 11. This is still higher than the recommended range.

I have no problem with mask leaks. The leakage is 0%.

Does it mean I need to get my upper limit pressure adjusted even higher (currently at 14)?

Re: Where A CPAP Newbie Should Start

I've been on the cpap for almost two weeks now. Last night was the first night I didn't take my full mask off after I switched to a bigger sized mask cushion. Ironically, I woke up more tired today and even fell asleep mid-morning, which feels as if the therapy isn't working. Medical care in my part...
