Re: Ive been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea – Now I’m getting very worried

I went a long time - years - knowing that I had sleep problems before I was diagnosed as having sleep apnea. In that time, sleep has become so unproductive that I had become accustomed to not sleeping much, and thus I sort of lost the ability to fall asleep. Then menopause hit, which only made thing...

Re: New user having hard time getting used to machine.

I have no experience with panic attacks, but...is it due to feeling claustrophobic? Or stifled, as if you can't breathe? Some ideas: Are you wearing a face mask? This is what I've observed is a common cause for panic. It is made worse if the face mask doesn't fit right, and if it doesn't fit right, ...

...now as to what is causing the arousals...million dollar question that I don't have a good answer for. Do you have a lot of stress in your life? Or perhaps a constant low-level anxiety? I ask because these are factors in modern life, and a surprising number of people have this and just quietly tr...

Re: Why is OSA usually treated with PAP therapy??

While the possibility of surgery to try and widen my very small airways was presented to me, the success rate is uncertain. You could even be left so that it is difficult to swallow. A dental appliance could also be used, which forces your lower jaw forward, but getting a comfortable fit can be diff...

Re: Europe travel plug adapter

I traveled in Sweden with a Respironic for a week last year, and used an adaptor like what Palerider showed in his (her??) bottom picture. I did not need a converter. The Respironics runs on either 120V or 240V, and I had no problems. Just make sure all the prong connections are snug and tight. (Loo...

Re: Backup machines

I have one. No, wait, I actually have two. I retired my first machine, a Phillips Respironics, but right before that I bought a refurbished Resmed Airsense 9 For Her. Then I bought the 10 For Her, having noticed that the "For Her" version seemed to work better for me. The 9 is my backup, and it's th...

Re: Inconclusive sleep study

I am in my 6th year of using a Cpap machine, and only now am I finally getting decent sleep. Now I even dream sometimes. And I sometimes can even fall asleep again after waking in the early hours of the morning. It took quite a combination of improved nutrition and stress relieving techniques before...

Re: What if they didn't diagnose Sleep Apnea?

I'm in this club, too. I had complained to doctors for years that I always felt tired. I mean really tired. To the point where I would nod off while driving my car TO work in the morning! They took blood tests, and gave me pamphlets about sleep hygiene. You know what one of them told me? Don't drive...

Re: Is this normal

No...that is not normal. With an Auto machine, your settings should not be a factor, but maybe it's good to check that someone didn't set the min/max too low. It kind of sounds like you didn't get enough air from your machine. As for your face mask not fitting, it may be possible that your face has ...

Re: Newbie from Denver. How long to get used to a cpap machine?

FYI, I travel for my work, but rarely go abroad. Last fall I had to fly to Sweden, with a connection in Amsterdam. I was apprehensive about using my machine on the plane, but everything worked fine - mostly. I was able to plug my Resmed Autoset S9 into the outlet the airline provides. It was a littl...

Re: Inconclusive sleep study

Maybe if I relare my story, you can get some insight. I definitely have OSA, but it went undiagnosed for about 7 years. I suspected something wasn't right, but several different dictors I went to over that time span did not consider it a possibility. In the earliest stages, one doctor had me do a sl...

Re: Worried about Sleep Apnoe, Des these O2 stats look like i Shoud go for a Study

Is it possible for you to do a home sleep study? There are some drawbacks to doing it at home, but it worked out very well for me. It was several years ago, but I recollect having to strap a small, brick-sized machine to my waist, and placing a couple of tiny hoses in my nose, plus an oxygen monitor...

Re: Did a CPAP changed your life?

Yes, and no. I had an immediate, step change in improved sleep. Almost immediately I stopped getting drowsy while driving. And I stopped getting up to pee 4 or 5 times a night. And I felt more refreshed when waking up. But I had other sleep issues that I had to deal with. I still wasn't able to get ...

Re: Anyone using CPAP for non-Apnea or heart issues?

I take 500 mg of Calcium Citrate, which has helped me calm down and sleep better. You could also take a bath with some Epsom salts dissolved in the water -- Epsom salts has magnesium in it and magnesium is readily absorbed by the skin. Check your vitamin D levels. That's not part of a typical blood ...

Re: Night Sweats

If, on the other hand, your nightsweats are related to menopause, you may consider some of the natural remedies that work for many women. Dr. Christiane Northrup (MD) has some useful books on the subject.
