Except for rested gal's experience of almost quitting, I think this thread begs the real question: Is compliance increased because people can "self medicate" (either because of the psychological benefit of having control over your own treatment, or because of better followup thru machine stats)? I t...

I love the glasses analogy, very fitting.

Now why can't we come up with "contacts" for CPAP, so much more convenient when you're doing a full court press !

magpie, sorry to hear you're feeling all stuffed up. Normally "snorting" salt water works for me, but I've heard on other forums that a Nettie pot works very effectively (same ingredients but more gentle). http://www.healingdaily.com/exercise/neti-pot.htm Though i guess that's what you already tried...

Drummergirl -- heh heh I also had a CPAP dream last night but I can't remember the details. We must both be really anxious to get the ball rolling

I hope you hear from them early next week!!!

Jen, That is indeed very encouraging news, and I am happy to hear about your progress as well! I know that depression can be different for everyone, but I totally believe that a precipitating factor for depression is sleep apnea.. and it's really good to hear that you will be able to drop the meds s...

Wow I can't imagine an AHI that high! You basically don't breath at all at night!

severe OSA or not?

First, thanks in advance to anyone who can help with this... Second, I have tried to read as much as I can on the forum already but since everyone is different, I'm still a bit unsure as to what it means for me. So I have been diagnosed with "Severe" OSA (haven't gone on treatment yet; waiting for s...

Hi snoredog, Thanks for the suggestions. Actually I already had my first PSG in May (sorry I didn't make that clear). I had an AHI of 35.5, with an arousal index of 38.5, and spent only about 12% of my sleep time in REM sleep. (Felt like i slept only 4 hours but actually made it to 5.5 hours...) In ...

So I took a look on the internet. Check this out! It looks like an apparatus to prevent sleep apnea by helping the user to sleep face down! There is a picture too. http://www.wipo.int/pctdb/en/wo.jsp?wo=2004093610 Brilliant! tho can't quite figure out where your head is supposed to go? Look like yo...

I'm a 5'7" female, 30 years old, and currently weigh (sigh) 190 lbs. HOWEVER, in the vein of some of the posts questioning the beer belly/obesity - OSA link, I now know that I have had sleep apnea my whole life (symptoms go back to when I was a little kid), and up until the age of 20 or so I did ton...

Re: Sleeping position...

Hummm, perhaps we're all missing out on something here. If we slept facedown on a specially designed bed, would the airways remain open? OMG! I remember that 3 years ago when I first suspected sleep apnea, I scoured the web trying to find a pillow or bed that would let me sleep on my stomach, with ...

Good luck becoming a hosehead ASAP I think the doc said I could take the machine home with me the next day, I think i'll just absolutely die if I have to wait another 3 to 10 days after that! heh heh Thanks, and I hope you get your equipment sooner ...

Sharon, thanks for the encouraging words! BTW I read your last post, I am very sorry to hear about your bad experience recently. I can certainly sympathize, as I also have many stories about docs that think they know best -- but always trust yourself and never underestimate your own ability to know ...

Waiting for my first titration study....

I must say, this is a fantastic group! I have read as much as I can, in preparation for my first CPAP machine... my lungs, heart, and brain are trembling with excitement as I count down the days until I get my CPAP (11 days to go....)! I got diagnosed aaaages ago (it was back in May but it feels lik...
