Throw Out The Fish Oil, Bring Back the Trans-Fats?

Post by roster » Mon Apr 25, 2011 6:56 pm

MONDAY, April 25 (HealthDay News) -- High levels of heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids in the blood may be associated with an increased risk for developing aggressive prostate cancer, while elevated levels of unhealthy trans-fatty acids may lower the risk, a new study suggests.

Researchers examined data from a U.S.-wide study of more than 3,400 men, and found that those with the highest blood percentages of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) were two-and-a-half times more likely to develop aggressive prostate cancer than those with the lowest DHA levels.
...
The study also found that the risk of aggresive prostate cancer was 50 percent lower in men with the highest blood levels of trans-fatty acids, which are abundant in processed foods and associated with inflammation and heart disease.

Hello all
The latest study shows that people that read the warning litature that comes with prescription medications are 100% less likely to take them than people that do not. The same study found that people who are payed for making studies now make up 65% of the work force and are responceable for 77% of the GNP.

Had they done any research to get the right facts, the article would have stated that there are natural trans-fatty acids produced in the digestive system of humans and also small amounts in beef and other animals we consume.
These are NOT the dangerous trans fatty-acids found by hydrogenation that we find in processed foods. The natural trans-fatty acids are indeed healthy and are much more likely what that article means... but for sensationalism and shock value, just doesn't state.

Cheers,
xena
